Billet Tech catch can for 3.0L ecodiesel

I see that a few people have installed the Billet Technology catch cans on WK2 diesels (Peter.T and yoda42) but they are both Aussies. Not that I have anything against the land down under, but I'm not sure if their PCV system is different than ours here in the states.

Browsing the Billet Technology website, it appears they have different catch cans for different engines, not just that the brackets are different. So I wrote them an e-mail asking them which model I should get for the Ecodiesel and this is the response I got:

Sorry for the inconvenience.

So does anybody on here know the answers to the following:
  1. Is there a reason that the catch can needs to be tailored to the specific engine it is connected to?
  2. Which model of catch can do I need to buy for the Ecodiesel?
  3. What are the specs of the hoses I need to make?

Hi,

I had the same difficulty in trying to identify which can I needed. In the end I bought one for the V6 petrol motor and knew that I would be making my own bracket. I think that the construction of the can itself is the same no matter which engine it is for. Its only the brackets and hoses etc that vary.
This worked out well and during the past week I have been towing caravans to the Brisbane caravan show and have clocked up about 400km towing. So far the can has collected 5ml of oil.
The hoses I used were some that came with the BT can that I cut up to make adaptors and I also bought a small length of 3/4 hose which fits inside the neoprene hose on the engine already. Also used a 1/2" plastic irrigation elbow.
I can send more detailed pics if you want but it will have to be next week as I am at the show all week and coming weekend.

Pete

below is Gabe from Billet Tech's, response regarding a catch can setup for the CRD. Anyone able to accomodate his request. My SFU is in D1 status and I do not live near FL.

"We have yet to test-fit a CRD so unfortunately there is no pre-set kit for that model just yet.

That being said, if anybody with a CRD is close to us (Lake Worth, Florida), you're more than welcome to call us and set up a time to come down for some test-fitments, and we'll get you some shwag for your time :)"

I have now added a couple of pics of my catch can install. Working well, now scavenged 15ml oil in 1800km.
pics of bracket cut from 10mm aluminium plate and pic of cardboard rough template.

Thanks for the update and pics, nice install
Still waiting for my CRD to arrive, should be later this month
Only concern I would have is the plastic irrigation elbow holding up over time in the engine environment
I guess it could be switched out every year or two?

Agreed. I am replacing the plastic elbow with a brass one in the next few days. Just had a plastic one on hand so used it to get everything up and running.

Excellent, the brass fitting sounds great. Now that you did all the legwork , may be ordering the BT catch can before the SFU arrives. Thanks for the idea

I received confirmation from Gabe with Billet Technology that the catch cans themselves are not different for different engines, it's just the brackets and hoses that differ. Now to decide which color I want to buy...

Re: Billet Tech catch can for 3.0L ecodiesel

spoke with the guys at BT, recommended the CC for the 5.7L Hemi, product number 20010
this has the longest tubing and a more universal bracket
BT also mentioned that this CC only works with the exterior PCV, some diesels have internal system???
just ordered Blue with brass fittings
