Is the 2014 Overland better than the 2013?

I am in the market for a JGC. I am coming from a 2011 Overland that I absolutely loved. Due to a traffic accident, however, my Overland has just been declared a total loss. :(

The main differences I can see is:

2011 = 5-speed Auto
2012 -2013 = 6-speed Auto
2014 = 8-speed Auto

I gotta say, I did NOT like the 5-speed. I never got around to adding a Hemifever tune (heard it helps a bit). How do the transmissions compare?

Radio/NAV

2011 = RER
2012-2013 = RHR
2014 = RA4

I was sad to learn that my RER did not support Bluetooth streaming, so already I like the RHR and RA4. Obviously the RA4 is vastly different. Is it much better than the RHR? Is there any way to use Spotify with the RA4?

Adaptive Cruise: I have heard a lot of good things about this. Having never used it, I am not sure if it would be a major factor in my decision. I do use cruise control with a great degree of regularity.

Flipper Glass and remote window control

I know a lot of people say the miss the flipper glass and wish they could control their windows with the remote, but honestly, I never used either. I guess this one has little to no bearing for me.

Appearance

This is got to be one of the biggest differences and certainly contributes to my decision. While the 2011-2013's look fantastic, I do like the new style. This one, I am not sure on. For one reason or another, I like both styles.

Anyway, I would really like to hear from those that have owned both generations. What do you miss about the "old"? What do you regret (if anything) about the "new"? What do you love and/or hate about either?

Thank you for your time in reading all this. I have about 2-3 weeks to make a decision.

Finally, please let me know what you think about this one:

I had an 11 prior my14 purchase. The transmission is MUCH better.

The new nav is much better.

I also LOVE the new headlights on the overland compared to the 11 version.

Long story short the 14 is a nice step up from the 11 overland.

It's a great vehicle, I think you'll be pleased. Take a test drive and see the difference. Good luck!

I bought a new 2013 Overland with the 5.7L Hemi engine and really loved it. My only issue was I did not like the 6 speed transmission. It felt like it was lagging at low speeds. I took it in to the dealer to get the oil changed at 3300 miles and while I was there they had a 2014 Overland with the new 8 speed transmission with the 5.7L Hemi engine. I drove it and I was hooked. The 8 speed transmission is so much better than the 6 speed to me. I traded them my new 2013 and left with the 2014 and could not be anymore happier about the trade. :slapfight:

I have a 2012 5.7L V8 with the 6 speed and got the transmission flashed with an update and am happy with it ever since.

Well, I just test drove a 2014 Summit. Wow! I am sold on the transmission alone.
Not to mention the Radio/NAV.

jgc4ever: did you have the dealer re-flash it or was it something like a hemifever flash?
Also, can you describe the differences it made?

It was a dealer flash/TSB. It was done a while ago so hard to remember all the changes, but mainly when I would decelerate (before the dealer flash was done) and then I would press the gas (because a light turned green) the Jeep delayed or didn't downshift properly to accelerate like I would expect it to, and I would compensate by giving it even more gas and eventually it would after too long of delay accelerate but way too abruptly. After the flash, the transition from slowing down to speeding back up reacted with accelaration when I wanted it to. It accelerates better from a stop also although I don't know if that's from the flash or just from the Jeep relearning how I drive.

Great info. Thank you!

I still like the 2014 Summit I drove today. Bad idea to go looking where I probably shouldn't. :D

FYI - I had a 2011 Summit 4x4, V8, black with saddle interior and loved it. Great vehicle. I was hesitant to go to a 2014 as I thought perhaps the differences were not that big. But the differences are huge. I absolutely love my 2013 Summit 4x4, V8, white with brown interior. Glad I made the jump....no buyer's remorse at all.

The 8 speed is amazing. It totally changes the vehicle. I upgraded from a 2012 to a 2014 and love it!

I had a 2013 Overland V8 with all the options and loved it. I have a 2014 Limited diesel and love it as well. Aside from the transmission and a few appearance changes there's not many differences between the two models. I did hate the crappy shifting of the '13. The '14 shifts much better!

However if I was in the market today to buy one, I would probably go with the older one with the updated transmission flash. More bang for the buck. After all, it is a jeep and spending what we do for them is a little absurd to begin with.
