I usually don't like to be one to contribute to the bad news about our great vehicles. However, I wanted to share the repair I am suffering through currently.

My wife noticed some fluid in my parking spot in the garage that lined up to about the center console underneath the vehicle. A quick inspection of the underneath of the vehicle showed a dangling piece of debris. Once I touched it I realized it wasn't foreign debris but a gasket or seal hanging from the transfer case. Fluid was also found around the location.

2014 Jeep SRT
Delivery October 2013
Current Mileage: 18,500
Daily Driver

Vehicle was taken in the next morning Friday June 6th. Dealer was not going to provide a rental at first but let them know I would be reaching out to the SRT team. SRT and the dealership both quickly provided a rental vehicle. *use the SRT hotline people!!!*

After taking the vehicle into the dealership I was informed it was the transfer case seal which they had in stock and would repair. After dis-assembly they found more damaged ( exactly what has not been explained but I will get an answer ).

Parts were ordered from Chrysler but the first delivery did not include the oil seal. The new shaft listed the oil seal as part of the component but it did not come with. The dealership then ordered another shaft again missing the oil seal. At this point they submitted Non-Conforming Part ticket.

Friday May 13th the seal was delivered and repair began. I should have my vehicle back Monday!

I'm still very in love with my vehicle. This post was simply to document the issue in case any other members unfortunately experienced a similar failure. If anyone has any constructive advice to provide on the failure or things I should be weary of please let me know.

Again this is not a post to raise hell about my issue but just to enlighten and seek information. I'm still very in love with my vehicle.

Re: transfer case seal/output shaft failure

Hope they get it fixed up quickly for you. I would be interested to see what the final verdict was when you get tj back.

Sorry to here. Broke my driver side axle again for the 2nd time. SRT hotline is awesome, can't get the jeep in though till the 30th because the dealer is so backed up. I know of someone that blew their rear end also. I think the front just takes a beating with the torque we produce and the wide sticky tires

They should be built to take the abuse...
Do you know if issues like these would be covered under the powertrain warranty? I will much more comfortable if i'm covered under the 100,000 miles/5years Powertrain warranty

I would think this would fall under the power train.

Thanks for making an informative, non SRT bashing post.

Quick question do you do a lot of 0-60 runs? Because I have done a ton and am hoping nothing like this happens.

It's been a few months since I've done any launches or 0-60 runs. Honestly kinda forgot about the launch control button. Really don't think I have beaten up on the car. I do drive aggressively though at times but nothing to warrant the failure in my eyes.

I have put a good amount a miles on her though...

Initial information as I'm picking her back up. Rough surface on output shaft and/or output shaft seal. This had to be a part defect.

$350 total for the rental! Better them than me.

I was just taking a look under the vehicle today. This is my transfer case... Am I missing a bolt there. The hole just seems too clean to supposed to be unfilled. Maybe they missed something while reassembling.

When I get home this evening I will have a look at mine and let you know if I have that bolt.

Mines the same, looks like that is the way it is suppose to be.
