I would like some advice from MY2014 Owners

Hi everyone. I currently have 4 months left on my MY2012 Laredo X. I had my heart set on a 14 Altitude. I am having second thoughts and maybe thinking about going with a Laredo E with the 8.4 radio and 18 inch wheel package and adding the catskinz leather through dealer. I have seen and felt the catskinz and they are actually better looking and feeling then the limited IMO.

With that being said I still after reading and searching cannot tell if a Back up Cam is possible on the 8.4 that comes in the Laredo as a dealer install that doesn't void warranty etc. I dont see any clear defining answer , maybe I am not seeing it.

My main thing is coming from a Laredo X I have the power tailgate and sunroof which I cant stand. The shade rattles and I never use it. So basically I am sacrificing homelink and power tailgate to save money on my current payment and most likely be enjoying a better interior as well as better interface with the 8.4

My question is for those especially that had MY2013 and prior that went up to the MY2014 or those who just started with a 14 are the ability to use the apps a big plus? Also does the phone interface allow you to set favorites on the screen and just touch to call?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I have a new Summit and yes you have a row across the top of the phone screen with 5 soft touch buttons to save phone numbers without going into your phone book. I don't recall if you can save more than 5 as I've only set 2 so far. As for apps I haven't delved into that yet.

Based on the Jeep site specs, it appears you need to move to the Limited to be able to get the rear camera option from the factory. This is consistent with the issue around that with the Altitude since that special edition is based on the Laredo E. That said, I believe folks have indicated that a dealer install is possible...check the various Altitude threads.

I havent used any of the apps in the vehicle because you have all the same apps on your phone...plus your phone is going to be faster and easier to use.

I havent personally seen any laredos with a backup camera (then again, I havent really been looking). I think if your main concerns are leather and the touchscreen then get the additional package. Worst comes to worst you can add on a backup camera later. Not saying its going to be a factory one but there are plenty of third party ones out there. If the difference is 50-100 bucks or more a month in order to get a package with a backup camera then save yourself the money and skip it

If you order a 2015 Grand Cherokee Altitude you can get rear back up camera from the factory as an option. The 9 speaker Alpine with subwoofer and amp is also available for 2015 Grand Cherokee Altitude and must also be added to your (or a dealer) order to get the then optional factory installed rear back up camera.

First, the backup camera can be added via dealer install and not as an option on a Laredo. However, as stated above, the new 2015 Altitude will give you the option to add the rear backup camera. This is good news forus 2014 Altitude owners as it means a direct install of the camera with dealer activation to make it work.

Second, apps are very limited. The ones available are seriously slow to use via Uconnect. I tried Yelp but it takes so long to load and supply results you should just pull over to not waste gas. Im certain the system will continue to grow as supply much more integration.
