2012 Overland -> SRT8...worth it?

I currently own a 2012 Overland and have always wanted an SRT8, even before we got the Overland, but my wife never wanted one as this was to be her daily driver and she didn't like the SRT's seats. The Overland has been my wife's vehicle, but she has decided she wants a sedan instead and has told me if I want that I can trade the current WK2 in on an SRT8, but it has to be under $50k. I currently have a little over $20k in equity on the Overland (based on what we owe vs. what Carmax will give me), which makes this even more tempting for me.

While I'd love a 2014 for the launch control and other added features, I am not sure the premium is worth it over a 2012 or 2013 which I can get for under $50k, plus I am still not sold on the 2014's front fascia and headlight area. Should I have any trouble getting a '12 or '13 for closer to $45k? Ideally I'd like to keep it under 20k miles as that is how many miles are on my current WK2 and it still has somewhat of a newness to it. So, current '12-'13 SRT8 owners, are you still happy with your decision and would make the jump if you were in my shoes?

The 8 speed and extra hp is also nice.

Still happy with the 2012, puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. The 8 speed would be great but the cost difference would need to be considered.

Having owned both, plus a 2010 still, yes you can find a '12-'13 in your price range......HOWEVER......there's no way in hell I'd do the trade you want to do. At this point in the game, anyone wanting an SRT Jeep needs to buy a 2014+. Let me also add I am a former 2004 GTO owner who sold and bought a 2006 GTO (if you don't understand, look up what happened with that cars models). In years to come, '12-'13s are going to have poorer resale and be less desirable.

Thanks guys...I have found a few '14s with low miles for right around $55k, which doesn't include any haggling. I think at this point it does make sense to at least try to make the jump to a '14, even if it means waiting a bit longer for the right deal to come along. Of course, the price of our '12 is likely to decrease more the longer I wait.

You currently own a 2012 and you're definately going to take a hit in trading her in so
If you are going to do it, Do it right and get the 2014.
There are so many nice things to consider in the 2014, Just the new front and rear end is enough for me, not to mention the 8.4 touch screen and the 8 - speed tranny.
0.2

Depends on where you want to go with it... The tuning and aftermarket is still coming around and better every month. I want a 14, but I go back and forth for the ability to put a SHR Viking in after some serious mods, and be faster than a 14 anyway (transmission negated).

As for the stereo, I am doing something custom, as using the factory is useless unless you spend a ton of money for modules and install. There is a thread where an 8" Alpine was placed into a WK2 in the regular WK2 section here. Besides performance pages are in the EVIC, and work just fine (8.4" screen negated).

The rear is something I do like better, but a gloss black brow and rear step surround, which I ordered the $40 Laredo one, took care of the gaudy chrome pieces (rear negated).

The front end in my opinion is purely personal preference. Some think it looks like a raccoon, and love the body color grille, I am included in this. Some dislike the new headlight design, while some just love it.

I really think you just need to play the endgame mindset and figure out what works for you...

I did the exact same as Schleprock and I agree with him 1000%.

2014 all the way. See one in person coming down the road, much more aggressive looking than the 12-13s

I traded my 2012 overland for a 2014.. lost a bit of money BUT I don't care !!!

Let me tell you something my friend. If you want a SRT you want it for the POWER! That thing is a beast and I enjoy driving it everyday... It has balls man.. Launch Control is nothing really, I put it in sports mode and floor it and it does the same thing.. it wants to push you through the seat!

But My old 2012 overland has 2 things that the SRT does not. Air suspension and I believe the seats are more softer or it feels like you sit in them not on them. So the overland is definitely the ride for comfort and luxury..

The only reason I upgraded is that I started my own business and i'm using this vehicle as my company vehicle so it's a tax write off.

The 8.4 uconnect is the big seller for me also.. I can't stand using the phone with the one in the 2012 overland. 8.4 Is so much more sophisticated and user friendly... It's actually the first system that I use voice command.

My SRT has power on demand, and it turns heads.. When you drive down the road.. and you see another SRT guy driving by we both nod at each other knowing we are King!

I am Overland 2011 Diesel -> SRT owner and it was a good move.
Lost a lot in the changeover, but we do not buy cars as an investment and you only live once.

Seems like 2014s may be the way to go. I had forgotten about the 8-speed transmission and the more I look at them, the more I am liking the front end. Now if they would just drop some in price like the 2012s have.
