Cold air intake
 
Whats up guys. I have a 2007 grand cherokee 3.7 . Whats the best cold air intake. I want the loudest n most performance gain if any. Thanks

From what I have seen on Jeeps is that the stock air intake is actually a COLD air intake, while most of the aftermarket ones are really WARM/HOT air intakes.

Other than making more noise, I do not understand what good they do.

The Volant intake system is just like the factory one its all sealed 100 percent but it also allows more air into the engine as well

Injen is probably the best bet. It goes all the way to your TB, eliminating the stupid resonator. I've been fighting with my stupid reso since I got my K&N. I should have gone Injen or Airaid or anything that eliminates that thing!

Cold air is denser than warm air. Put "cold" air in your TB, mix in some fuel, and you end up with more power.

Hi Truck.Norris. Had to laugh about your comment of fighting with the intake resonator box.
The Cherokee does not have that box but straight pipe into the TB. And reads "3.7l V6" on it. Why does the WK not use this setup? I am looking to change my car setup to cut out the resonator box and the long concertina pipe that is possibly causing air flow restrictions with turbulence.

Then question, are the cone type K&N filters oiled or not?

Yes, I think it's oiled -if I remember correctly. I wish I knew why the WK used that setup... When I bought the K&N, the picture showed it going straight to the TB -no reso. It cost me another$150 for ANOTHER CAI that I bastardized to fit. The reso is quieter AND restricts air into the TB...

Any internal combustion engine is just a pump, and can only process a given amount of air, depending on the displacement and RPM. The stock intake system is more than capable of supplying considerably more air into the engine than the engine is capable of processing.

Hi jeepgcoman. Thanks for your comments. You could be very correct. Just strange that many guys comment on better throttle response after fitting other air intake systems. This will be one reason that I would fit an after market system.
I do not think that they are all just telling stories.

OK, inspected the complete intake components very critically. Decided not to make any changes other than fit square K&N reusable filter and also slightly modified cover infront of air intake behind grill by making flap bit smaller.

It would seem to me that the air system actually has very few restrictions, other than the filter itself and the flap that I made smaller.

Since I often drive in very dusty conditions, the stock system will provide best outcome. The cover behind the grill is important to keep bugs and driving rain and water from water crossings out of the intake.

Just my opinion, not an expert at all.

IMO, that's a good decision. I am not sure but, if your airbox is the same as the 4.7/5.7's, it is capable of flowing around 700 cfm of air though it. Your 3.7 (~226 cu. in.) is only capable of processing a little over 400 cfm at 100% Volumetric Efficiency (VE), assuming it will rev. to 6000 RPM. At about 80% VE, which is about average, you'd only be pulling around 320 cfm through the engine. Lower maximum RPM means a lower amount of air can be processed. I don't know what kind of setup goes from the airbox to the throttle body on your 3.7, but if it's anything like the one on the 5.7, it's got all kinds of silencer baffles/noise reducers which restricts the airflow from the box to the throttle body. If that's the case with yours, you may want to put some sort of tube (not metal) that will allow the free flow of air.

this is easy. the grand is considered to be upscale vs the Cherokee/liberty. therefore to get the interior noise levels down, they install a resonator to the intake to further reduce noise. its the same reason in 2008 that they went to the thicker plastic valve covers over the aluminum ones from o2 to 07, to reduce noise.
