HOW TO: ADD a Jeep SRT8 exhaust to a non-SRT 8 Grand Cherokee

This is the stock rear sections of the SRT exhaust. These two sections and the 2 sections that travel over the suspension are just hung on the stock WK hangers...except for the two rear resonator sections. My shop welded two hanger rods into the rear frame rail and hung the two rear sections from those hangers.http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a74...p08hids052.jpg

This pic shows the tow sections that travel over the rear suspension and conenected to the front section via a Y pipe. This was done because the stock wk is a single system where the SRT is a dual system. The y pipe just converts it to a single system.

This pic show the SRT muffler completely removed and a single pipe welded in its place. this gave me a much better...and louder sound...exhaust tone.

if I didn't have a tow hitch I would spend the $$$ and do this! I cannot get rid of the hitch so I have relegated myself to single rear exit exhaust :( Anyone going to do this? Anyone else have something different they would like to share (non-SRT8 boys)??? IMHO this is the best looking exhaust set-up, I have loved the Porsche 997 GT3 since they did the same thing (06 I think)...

depends on the weight you need to tow though....

I have the factory hitch, It has the 7 way plug on the left. When i get pulled over for my side exhaust and told to change it i plan to drop the spare tire (you can fit around it though) and run an SRT 8 style exhaust. If you remove the 7 way plug with a dremel and relocate it behind the bumper cover and then dremel out the plastic to the right of the hitch there is room for a 4" tip on eacy side, more or less tip size depending on how much/well you trim the plastic.

BAM!

Yea, I have an idea kicking around in my head right now. Im going to try seeing if I can route my pipe from the rear hanger over to the middle of the bumper, then get the Laredo trailer hitch bumper trim and have a dual tip coming out. Basic but will give me the look I want. And with the weight of the length of pipe and dual tip I dont think I would need another hanger welded on. I got a bunch of pipe and fittings to test it out first to see if its possible. I also dont need the spare tire so i can drop it if needed.

FYI, SRT 8 hitch is only rated at 3500 lbs, it son a 1.3/4" hitch not a 2" WTF, a 6.1 hemi and they cant even make it meet what the 4.7 can tow. lol

Re: HOW TO: ADD an SRT exhaust to a non SRT WK

the SRT has a different driveline not meant for heavy towing...more for hauling a$$!

Re: HOW TO: ADD an SRT exhaust to a non SRT WK

yea teh D 44 is alot better then the 8.25, plus the engine difference it should easily be able to pull 8k lbs (assuming that the only thing that limites it after that weight is the suspension and the unibody itself)
