SRT8 Grill on a WJ?

Ok guys, I love the mesh on the srt8 and I'm thinking I'd like to have something similar on my WJ, both on the front grill and the part under the licence plate.

Question is, is it possible as there are fin things between the grill slots ( I hope I'm describing this ok).

I presume I'd need to remove these.

Other question is, colour. I have a black Jeep and want to know opinions on either chrome mesh or black.

Thanks in advance guys!

not sure how you would go about doing the lower portion of the front of your car but the grille is simple to make your self for cheap* too.

buy some wires mesh like this from anywhere near you, that looks like diamond cut mesh- measure and cut the acquired mesh to the inner portion of your factory grille.

then paint it black or what ever color you choose. remove your stock grille and remove the insert behind it (the black insert) and then take your painted new mesh and snap fit it in to the original insert clips.

link to soemthing like that^^ below:

as for the bottom, it will be more work. ive seen it done before, so its possible.

i did this on my 88 jeep cherokee XJ. fairly the same "how to do it" since the grille are virtually the same just different shape. later down the line i added the billet look on the outer portion of the grilles housing.

gl though bro

I would try to find something with a thicker diameter. From a distance its gonna disappear and look like theres nothing in the grille

I did the mesh grill insert on my WJ a few years back. I didn't remove the inner structure of the grill. Just sandwiched the mesh between the inner and outer parts of the grill. Used the "gutter guard" stuff and it worked ok and it held up for more than 5 years. Sorry I don't have any better pics.

nice mesh look hemi WK. yeah my diamond cut pic is just a reference on which cut to buy. i shouldve added that you want to get something a lil more healthier (thicker metal diamonds) for the proper look.

they sell the mesh inserts on ebay and everywhere if u want to do the meshy looking screen for the grille instead of the diamond cut mesh.

Thanks Scott!

Forgot to add a link to the wjjeeps site on custom grill inserts.

http://www.wjjeeps.com/grilles/grilles.htm#CUSTOM

If I were to do it again I would use some better/thicker mesh like Scott said above.

Thats awesome! Just the kind of thing I was looking for. I never thought of just sandwiching it in between, cool. I was also wondering if I did it black it might get lost, but this pic shows that it shouldn't. Plus I'm kinda of the opinion that if I did it in chrome, it would look like a ricer!

Great help though guys. I'm gonna definately go ahead and do it. I'll post pics as soon as I'm done:D
