I think the dealer Messed w/my car.

Call me paranoid but I just noticed two things wrong with my WK right now. I was repainting my calipers and noticed the rubber boot from the front drivers side axle to the spindle thing is cut. I pulled the boot back and the grease in there looks in good condition, and noticed what looks like score marks on the axle right where the boot is cut. Then I go to the other side in the front and see that the top fastener holding the brake line on the spindle is reversed, its now snapped into the front facing the wheel, and on the spindle itself there are marks where the dirt has been scraped off from where the lines go. I just took my car in last Thursday to the dealer to have the rear differential seal replaced. I never touched those lines and there is no reason to see those areas. Im about to take pix and post to show what im talking about. I really think the dealer did something to my car.

Did they inspect anything? Definitely check up on that. Look at the service sheet and take a look at what they did. That would be screwed up if they did that.

Yes, Lassie is in the well. And im wondering why my axle boot is cut clean and why my passenger brake cable is now hooked on the opposite side. I havent touched these areas. And looks like someone grabbed that fastener since the dirt is off of it.

Picture sux since its now dark out. But the boot looks cut clean all around, the boot shows no sign of being brittle or worn and on the metal axle shaft there are score marks. I peeled the boot back and the grease looks perfect, no water or crud in it, so it appears to have just been done. I have a CV joint boot fail on my previous car but it was cracked in one area, not like this completely seperated all the way around in a perfect line.

The axle rubber boot is cut clean, there are no jagged edges that would indicate stress and the boot ripping. It looks like it was cut clean with a knife.

When I picked it up they told me I needed my rear brakes done soon, and if I did them now I would be able to resurface the rotors. But I looked that day and again today and my pads are at 3/4 and my rotors are slightly worn but fine. I know what worn rotors look like, and these rotors can def go another 50K miles. There is hardly a lip around the edges.

lets say they f'ed with it, once you are off the lot they are going to deny everything.

if something happened, it was the techs in the back. you will get to the advisor andf maybe the manager and they can deny everything since they wouldnt know what to do.

so if they did deliberatly cut that boot at this point all you can do is fix it. sorry to say that a place would do that to you. but my exp is those boots usually tear small and get worse over time. so it really could have been them. i dont disagree that cut all the way and scrratch marks means something smells rotten in denmark.

good luck.

i should add most dealers have teams. the tech and the writer work as a team usually. and they have daily weekly goals. if they go over they get a piece of the action. so anything is possible.

This sounds plausible. Sorry for the initial flip reply.

this doesn't apply to Timmy's wk but i know a service tech at a chrysler, dodge, jeep dealership. they get paid by the job, not by the hour. if they are changing brakes and the service manual says it should take 2 hours and they get done in 1.5 hours, they get paid for the 2 hour job. the faster they do a service repair, the more money they make in a day.

I've never been on a team, and I never want to. EVER! I am a standalone..

A technician gets paid by a flat rate hour. Say you make 20$ an hour. For the job you described above the tech would get 40 bucks, but if he finishes it in 1.5 he still gets 40$.

I've flagged 60hrs for two weeks all the way to 110. It all depends on the job and work load. Being flat rate is risky, but anything turned over 80 hrs for two weeks is a pay bonus inlame terms. Just imagine making 60hrs one pay, then turn around and make double the next.

There is big money in the business if you treat the customer right. I hate reading threads like this hence it puts a bad rep on us. If you feel the dealer is messing with your car innapropriately, your best bet is to go somewhere else. Its not worth fighting because you will get nowhere.

When I have an issue with a car or if I find something, I bring the customer right to the stall and show him exactly whats going on, it just gives him a better piece of mind and keeping him in the loop more.

Sorry to threadjack..
