Detailing Help

Hi

We have had our Jeep for about a week now.
It is shinny but has no wax on it at all.
i want to protect the finish and make the Jeep "POP"

i have bought Meguiar's three step process
1. prewax cleaner
2. polish
3. carnuba wax

do i need to clay bar the Jeep?
and do you guys do different things to protect
the finish in winter.
how often do you wax your Jeeps?

thanks for the help
Ray

Re: Detailing Help

I would say you probably should clay bar it first. It will only make it better IMO.
I will be doing similar process soon and will be doing the clay bar.

def. clay bar it to remove all the crud. I would also add a sealant after the polish...probably 2 coats and let them cure a good while before doing the next step...overnight is best. I use the #21 Meguiers. It can be found at most oreillys auto parts or fron the vendor here... www. detailedimage.com

Re: Detailing Help

what does the sealant do?
so you would
1 clay bar
2 pre cleaner wax
3 polish
4 sealant
5 wax

Re: Detailing Help

x2 clay is a must 1st step for a good detail. take your time. when the water stops beading its time to rewax, its hard to say a specific time frame to wax, because it depends on how often you wash it and other things

Re: Detailing Help

the sealant will be the REAL protection bro. Wax's just dont last too long. A good sealnt like #21 Megiuiers will last 12-16 weeks or longer depending on hoiw often you wash etc.

and also if you do have the funds a good buffer helps make the tedious hand work much easier to apply on the paint

Make sure you start from Top to Bottom! And Use the 2 bucket method!

Re: Detailing Help

as others have said claying is very important. use a sealant megs #21 or nxt 2.0 . Do 2 thin layers 12 hours apart and then wax 12 hours later. claying will help the sealant stick to the CC easier:)

Re: Detailing Help

use a thick layer of turpentine before wax, works wonders.

Re: Detailing Help

just kidding on the turpentine dont do it. But really how often is ok to use the clay bar on your vehicle. Ive heard not to use it too much.
