Locked up brake caliper?

I was driving my WK this afternoon and it was vibrating in the butt of the seat and the floor. I figured it might be an out of balance wheel or something.

I went around to check my jeep when i got home and my pass side Brake rotor is blue and purple colored and my wheel was scorching hot. I called a few friends and they all said either the E brake is frozen or the caliper is locked up.

The e brake is holding and releasing fine so i am pretty sure its the caliper.

Any input?

If it is i assume the right thing to do is get a new caliper, New rotors and pads? I think the rotor is prolly warped now due to the high heat and the pads might be toast or at least should be replaced because its all apart any way.

If so, then i will drive my moms car for a few days and order R1 concepts rear drilled and slotted rotors and new pads and get a Caliper from J4J because i dont want some junk re man auto zone caliper.

Have you recently redid your rear pads? I just did mine and my brake shop said it is very common for the rear calipes to lock up after a pad slap. ( as mine were not to your extent though) Also they told me that the rotors are a one time use only so yours is deffinetly shot. At least you made it home safley.

Nice deal! yeah caliper is gone. Might want to see if the rotor can be surfaced, if not... might as well replace both side rotors and pads with something aftermarket for some better stopping power... we don't drive light vehicles after all :P

Is the pad still seated properly? Once on my WJ I had a pad come halfway out from the caliper.

yea, Caliper is toast, and when i took everything apart the E brake shoes fell apart when i touched them too.

So far

Getting Calipers from Scott.
Ordered in E brake shoe kit and full hard ware kit.

I am ordering my new pads and rotors ASAP with a G2 Caliper paint kit in Silver.

My front pads are under 1/4" left and steering wheel does vibrate under braking so i am gonna re do all the brakes.

Drilled and Slotted Rotors and Posi Quiet Ceramic pads front and rear and silver calipers.

Its all a waiting game now.

Should be 3 to 5 days before my E brake shoes and hardware show up.

About the same until Scotts Calipers show up.

R1 FT/RR Drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads should be here by the end of next week.

So now my jeep sits as a tripod in the drive way until next weekend. LOL

I have it on a jack stand right now but i am going to put the rotor and the wheel back on for now so its not so broken looking it just wont have brakes.
