easy performance mods for a newb

ok guys i dont know much of anything about the mechanical part of jeeps. But i really want to learn. i have noticed with my jeep that i dont get as good of a launch as i would like when i get into my little street races. so im wondering what i can do to make it quicker off the line. im gonna buy a CAI and was looking at throddle bodys (how tough of a mod is this?). any help would be very appreciated. im not trying to take this thing to the track or anything just want to make it a little quicker.

this stuff prolly wont happen anytime soon but i wanna get som info around for when i have the $$

4.0 I6

Changing your throttle body is easy enough. Just take the old one out and fit your new ported and polished one. You're better to get a seperate one to have ported as it's not something that's done in an afternoon (if your doing it yourself), that way you can still drive your Jeep:thumbsup:.

I've bought a used TB for 50 and plan to port and polish myself, so that's one less expensive mod.

I plan on a CAI too and an exhaust, but there's too much choice:eek::confused: and I've no idea as of yet what's the best.

Good luck with it though bro:thumbsup:

If I get the chance tomorrow, I'll post up some pics for you or have a look on wjjeeps.com.

Yeah. No specialist tools needed. Get some torx bits as well. While you've got the TB off, clean the IAC too. You'll be amazed at the crap that's in it:eek:

Just pulls off. Here's a pic of a clean IAC just so you know what it looks like. Its underneath the TPS on the side of the TB. Again just remove the two torx screws, disconnect the plug and pull out

Re: easy performance mods for a newb

Yeah. You see the IAC motor connector on the pic? The smooth bit to the left is the IAC .All you do is unplug it. You'll see that there is two torx screws holding the IAC valve on, undo them and just pull the valve out. Then the reverse for installing:thumbsup: You may even feel a difference in performance once it's all cleaned. Depends how dirty it was. I should point out that the pics are from a v8, but the principle is the same, just a slightly different layout.
