Hi Davie,
When the problem is rough idling it can be a dirty IAC air passage. I had the same with mine and found a lot of oil residue in the passage. In fact the whole throttle body was dirty on the inside, but after cleaning it thorougly it idles as new.

Depends, sometimes faults don't throw codes straight away.

^^^X2 on it possibly being the IAC. Take it out and clean give it a good clean. Do the throttle body while you're at it.

Here's a couple of pics of my IAC from my 4.7 V8. If you're engine is different the layout won't be the same but will more or less be the same.

Apologies for the crappy photoshop!

The part circled '2' is the IAC. The part labelled '1' is the connector. Disconnect the plug and the unscrew the two torx screws (T20) holding the IAC in place and pull it out...

If it's dirty it'll look like this...

Give it a good clean and re install. You should see a noticable result and hopefully a total cure:thumbsup:

Should only take 10 to 15 minutes. A lot easier and cheaper than doing the fuel filter.

WOW, all of you guys are great! Thank you so very much for the info.... I wish I was a mechanic... I love fixing cars but became a Doctor instead -- go figure? I will do everything you guys said. What is the best way to clean the IAC? I have the V6 so I guess it should look similar.... thank you all so very much once again!

Re: jeep running rough

Yeah the IAC should be much the same. Just clean with some carb/ throttle body cleaner, wipe it down with some kitchen paper. Be careful to make sure there's no residue ie bits of paper left on it and if you clean out the throttle body and the area where the IAC goes into you'll be set:thumbsup:

I did exactly what everyone said, and yes i see a noticable change. the truck runs much better! I guess there is nothing else to really change as part of a major tune-up. thank you so very much!
