LSD Additives...Where to find?

Argh. I bought some of that Equa-Lube LSD additive from Pep Boys, along with some synthetic 75W-140 for the front diff...It was starting to have that rub/grind feeling in reverse on turns in the AM mostly and didn't know when or if it had been changed (I have 52k miles now). Well, the oil was dark but otherwise not 'bad' looking...filled it up and seemed to be night and day difference in driving. Well, 350 miles later after this weekend's trip, it's worse than ever, ugh! Originally, figured I'd add more LSD additive, BUT:

if you click the link, it states, "DO NOT USE IN AMC JEEPS WITH QUADRA-TRAC"...I don't remember seeing this on the label. Crap, so now I have to drain it again and start anew?!? Any ideas (besides the dealer) that I can pick up LSD additive that is OK for and works on our systems (yes, I have QD II)?

EDIT - Trans-X additive is what they used to sell...It doesn't have any warnings for QD systems...hmmm.

^^^So, if that works, would I be alright just to throw some of it in and not drain all the rest. Now I'm wondering why it's not compatible with QD and/or if it's damaging. Damn these special requirements :D

I was pretty certain this was going to be a drug-related thread :D

I think you can get the correct stuff from www.moparpartsamerica.com

I guess the stealership is always a last resort.

Damn wrong LSD.... LOL

LSD...lol, yeah I guess that does sound bad, ha ha.

Ugh to the dealer...but, if it's the only thing that'll work, I'll have to take it dry, I guess. I just don't want to be dealing with this issue everyday and not to mention if it's damaging the already delicate diff assy. Another problem with the stealer is the $$ and my wife's already freaking out on this maintenance stuff (she no understand).

I want to change my differential Fluids too. I have QD-II. It's like $30 per quart at the Dealership.

Re: LSD Additives...Where to find?

Thought I read on here somebody was able to buy small amounts at the dealer, but not 100% if all do that or ??

Anyway, that "Trans X" stuff (see link above in my edit) does not have the warning and it's made by the same company. That's the stuff I've always used and damn Pep Boys for changing! I'm pretty sure Autozone still carries Trans X, so I'm gonna try that...

The question remains though...Will I be alright to just keep whatever amount of "Equa Torque" LSD additive in there, if I just add a couple/few ounces of this proper stuff? I *really* don't want to waste the new fluid if I don't have to...crap's expensive! But, I don't want to risk damage, either, then I'll really be in trouble.

[EDIT - Here's a good comparison chart between the two types (select the 'compare' button'; for some reason it won't link direct), somebody must know about just adding/mixing :) ]

So I can go to AutoZone and buy 75W-140 and buy extra additive? I want to make sure because I don't want to screw up anything. I also I have to do my T-Case, but I will get that fluid from the Dealership.

Re: LSD Additives...Where to find?

I'm trying to find out if AutoZone carries that brand still...I did see that Advance Auto does, but we don't have those here. If not, Napa or Kragen/Shuck's must. I don't see any warning like on the other one, so I'm gonna try it...I've had many LSD units in the past and always used TransX with no issues whatsoever. Figures I try a new type and it's not compatible with Jeep QD, ugh.

Re: LSD Additives...Where to find?

I think the quadra-trac in the AMC Jeeps is not the same as the WK has in it. lol But if I was you I would go with the Mopar additive.

Re: LSD Additives...Where to find?

Oh yeah...boy, am I a dummy, lol...Quadra Trac, not Quadra Drive is what they state...figured the AMC part was just a carryover 'error' on their part (seen that in catalogs sometimes even though they went under in the early/mid 80's, iirc).

OK then, may be more of an issue of not enough additive then, although I still don't want to use the equa-torque anymore. Probably right, I should just bite the bullet and get the mopar stuff.

Thanks!

THAT TRANS-X HAS THE SAME WARNING NOT FOR USE IN JEEPS WITH QUADRA-DRIVE OR QUADRA-DRIVE II RIGHT ON THE BACK OF THE BOTTLE. !!!DO NOT USE IT!!!

I just used it for my jeep but it's because I have the select-trac.

THAT TRANS-X HAS THE SAME WARNING "NOT FOR USE IN JEEPS WITH QUADRA-DRIVE OR QUADRA-DRIVE II" RIGHT ON THE BACK OF THE BOTTLE. !!!DO NOT USE IT!!!

One bottle of this trans-x will do the front and back of one Jeep GC only. I put 2.5oz in the back and 4oz in the front of my Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L L6 with SELECT-TRAC.

THAT TRANS-X HAS THE SAME WARNING NOT FOR USE IN JEEPS WITH QUADRA-DRIVE OR QUADRA-DRIVE II RIGHT ON THE BACK OF THE BOTTLE. !!!DO NOT USE IT!!!
