Should I drill vent holes in my tinted tails?

So I've got my tinted tails with the stock bulbs, and I'm a little worried about warping. I read on one forum someone brought up drilling holes in the back of the tail light to help keep it cooler.

Do you guys think it would work?

With the holes there do you think water will get in too?

I'd get LEDs but I really don't want to go through the hassle some have experienced trying to find the right resistors.

I would be concerned with the moisture that would get in there. Granted it would be "Vented" but I don't think it would be something that is highly advisable.

I say NO. They are sealed enclosures. I have seen many people with tinted tails without any mention of drilling vent holes. Do not do it.

And I ordered more resistors on monday to try and figure how to get my LEDs working for the rear without blowing the brake light fuse. I got 1.2 ohm, 3 ohm, and 7 ohm resistors. Im going to try all 3 and let you know how it goes. I got the turn working perfect with a 7 ohm 50 watt resistor. So i plan on splicing in a 3 ohm to the brake wire also.

Re: Should I drill vent holes in my tinted tails?

if they are VERY DARK, i might consider it. otherwise no.

i mean, there are guys in Texas heat, dark as black paint, no warping for 2 years. then there is moneen, in canada, and his warped.

there are vents in headlights, some more prominent than others. I would do some research. maybe we can find a true vent from a H/L that could work on the tails.

like WJ giys, they have vents in their H/L's.

I bought these 3157 Red 13 watt LEDs. They are sick.

The tails are Daniel's Med-Dark. I just love how they look and don't want to have them end up warped some day.

After driving for a while I've noticed the tails do get hot, and would like to do something sooner rather than later

Well if they get hot due to the incandescent bulbs then why not try the LED's? It seems like a reasonable (best) solution to heat.

I don't really want to have to splice the wires and put resistors in. Some people have had problems getting them to work and I really don't want to go through the trouble if it's not going to work.

Yeah that's pretty fair to say.

I think as long as you have led tail lights then it's not worth it, since leds don't make nearly any heat.

I wouldnt man...I would just cross my fingers and hope they dont warp or bite the bullet and go the LED/resistor route!
