Hemi Resonator?

I looking for exhaust options for my new jeep 5.7l hemi. Why does it look like there are two mufflers on the hemi? Specifically the one on the back. If it remove it what would happen? Other forum members recommended th magnaflow catback but that is too quiet for me and i love the flowmaster sound. I really want mandrel bent stainless steel pipes though and flowmaster doesnt make a kit. Having dual slash tips would be nice too. Im confused how to piece together a custom system. Can someone post pics of the exhaust tips on their jeeps? thanks

Its a resonator to control drone. If you remove it there may be some drone. IDK how it sounds on a stock system with just the suitcase muffler. But on my old 5.7 I had a Dynomax Bullet muffler and had no reso. OMG was the drone bad. LOL

I put a Magnaflow on and cut the res off and put CAI and it sounds mean!

i'm running a 4x14 round magnaflow (basicly a strait pipe) with no resonator and side exit with dual angle cut oval tips. it sounds f'n beastly and i get funny looks all the time because nobody expects that kind of noise out of a grand cherokee. it sounds kind of like a 5.0 mustang. best part is the whole setup cost me less than 200 bucks installed.

I have an oval glasspack, er magnaflow, without a resonator and I'm ready to get rid of that thing! I cannot stand the fake sound of that muffler and not real sure what I will go with. I don't consider what I have to be drone, but more of the signature "hum" sound of the MF muffler. Some people may like it, but I don't like driving something that sounds 'mean' without having much to back it up. Sure, it's decent for what it is, but guess I'm just used to things that have high power to weight ratio and can back up a performance sound :)

Even so, I am glad I removed the resonator...It really didn't quiet it down *that* much and it weighs a decent amount (dead weight) and another restriction in an already restricted exhaust setup (esp. the manifolds!)

Don't get me wrong, I want it to "sound" like the V8 it is and wouldn't mind a throatier muffler that sounds more natural and not overly loud; those days are long past me, unless the engine truly is powerful and built (like my chevelle).

and if you like the flowmaster sound, do the same setup im running but do a super 44 in place of the magnaflow. ive never heard that setup but i can only imagine how good it would sound. sometimes i wish i wouldve done that, but the magnaflow has such a smooth rumble to it, so im happy.

Re: Hemi Resonator?

yeah, I'm sure it sounds good to some, I just don't like it for some reason. I have two 3" flowmaster 3-chambers from my chevelle and was thinking of putting one on there to check it out. I ultimately want 3" single or 2 1/2" dual (ran side by side with 1 muffler having 2 ins/outs) anyhow, but not sure how flowmaster will sound on it. Buddy at work has a dodge with 5.7 and flowmaster and it's a little loud. However, he may have the two-chamber version [never followed their change into 40, 44, 50 etc. so don't know what compares].

Another thing is whoever installed this 2 1/2" muffler used smaller 'piping' from flange to muffler; it goes inside the id of the 2 1/2", argh. Could be contributing to crappy sound too.

I just want something that is throaty and crisp with a touch of deep, best way I can describe it. I know I've heard chrysler engines (newer) sound like it, so sure it's possible.
