2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, towing capacity

Hi,

I am trying to find the towing capacity for my 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo w/ V6 engine. We are getting a class 3 hitch with electric break and want to tow a travel trailer. What would be the GVW that I could tow?

The V6 is rated for 3500lbs Gross Trailer Weight.

and for 3500 lbs you do not need a elec brake on a trailer.

3500 is with the stock hitch from jeep. if you go aftermarket and get a class 3 hitch you can tow more:) i tow 5000lbs with my v6 on hills:) autostick is your friend:)

irf just because you did it doesnt mean everyone should follow your..........your......... ideas.

OP asked the towing capacity. just beacuse you hauled more one time, or even every time, that doesnt mean the WK has more towing capacity.

Can you upgrade the factory class 2 hitch to a class 3? I don't like the puny hitch and plus I want to be able to tow my bigger trailer that takes a 2.5 inch ball.

They all bolt on the same way. Go to justforjeeps.com or ebay and buy the class 3 and bolt it on.

Just make sure if you do not buy the mopar hitch that you pay attention to your rear bumper. If it has the cutout you dont want the class 3 that is lower. If you dont have the cutout you either want the lower no cut class 3 hitch or you want to get the mopar hitch and get the bezel and make the cutout.

i got mine from etrailer.com its a hidden hitch class 3. we've had this convo and argument in another thread and the 3.7 is CAPABLE of towing more than 3500 as long as you have a capable hitch!

omg guys its not the towing you have to worried about its weather the truck can fiscally handle the weight i tow a 20 foot car hauler and a 17 foot speed boat with my grand Cherokee all the time but i have a class 5 hitch electric breaks and i had a lot put in to my trans

if you are going to tow with a jeep you need to put a four core trans cooler in first and for most protect your trans it is hard on them and you can and will burn it up fast and don't ever tow in over drive i had the local jeep dealer put a power trans drive in my trans this turns off the o/d when i turn it on and if you are pulling heavy loads then you might want to get a weight distribution hitch like what i have this will only allow the tong weight that you are supposed to have on the hitch and keep the load on the axles of the trailer hope that helps you guys out 1993 grand Cherokee Laredo 214.000 miles not rebuilt as of yet still running strong

Dumb question... If the trailer / tow vehicle has an electric brake would the towing capacity go up? http://deephousepage.com/smilies/nixweiss.gif
