Tire Life

What tire life are you guys getting when running BFG ATs, BFG MT's, BFG MT KM2s, Goodyear Wrangler MTRs? Just post up what you're on, how much tread you have, etc. Thanks!

BFG AT's 2 yrs so far and they still have the little rubber nibs on them, but they are only on in the winter.

well it does depend on how you drive, i have 245\60\18 M+S Wranglers, my Jeep has 29800 miles and they need changing. Mine have almost lasted 3.5 yrs.

They do need changing now, and they are frikken expensive man, so i am looking at some Hankook tires at 110 each.

It doesnt help that the 245\60\18 tires are not that popular.

My Wranglers (245 x 65 x 17) lasted 3.5 years and 70 000 kms, which I thought was not bad. I replaced them with 265 x 65 x 17 Merit All Terrains.

Tire wear is a mostly a function of how you drive, as what wears are the outsides/insides, as they get rounded off, the more aggressive you corner.
GY wranglers (and Tripletread Fortera's) are honestly very poor tires for the WK. The Destination AT's are far superior in ride, handling, steering and wear. THe only downside is a slight bit of humming at speed. I have had all 3 on my WK.

Re: Tire Life

Ive always had great life with the BFG ats. The General Grabbers are supposed to be just as good and have a 60k mile warranty but only $125 vs almost $200 each. They will fit in a 245/70/17. They dont sell them in the exact stock size for a 17" wheel.

Ive also heard great things about the Nitto Terra Grapplers All Terrains that are available in both the 245/65/17 and 245/70/17 and about $140 a tire.

The Wrangler MT/R with kevlar is supposed to last much longer thent he old MTR but ive never tired them.

The MT/Rs and the BFG MT KM2s and alot of other tires are available in a 245/70/17.

It depends on what you want to do. If your going to use it mostly as an on street dd then i say get the BFG AT or General Grabber AT2.

Re: Tire Life

My General Grabber AT/2's have now done 15000 miles and have worn 3mm out of the total tread depth of 13mm

So the 60000 miles looks like being a realistic target to me

A great tyre that gets my vote, very good on the road

Thats good to hear. I am prolly going to get a set because they seem to last the longest, perform the best year round and cost the least. I can get them for $125 each for a 245/70/17 or a 255/66/17 both will fit fine.
