Difference in GC Hemi and Ram Hemi??

Anyone know what the difference is in these two 5.7L engines?? I noticed the Ram Hemi produces 390hp - what does it have different that gives it that much of an increase over the GC Hemi??

Just curious...

I was wondering the same thing. I drove my friends 2010 ram a few times and that thing can move and it's a 5.7 HEMI. has 390hp and he gets almost 20 mpg on hwy doing 60-65. I asked Joe (Robert Palmer) he said possibly the cams. IDK

The HEMI in the Ram uses an "active intake manifold" with a short runner valve and the WK does not. Also, from wikipedia:

The new version of the 5.7L has five different camshaft profiles. All will have VCT.
Active intake with MDS
Active intake without MDS
Passive intake with MDS
Passive intake without MDS
HEV Application (modified version of passive intake with MDS)

I'd assume that between the intake mani and cam, that is where the 33 HP/18 TQ difference comes from.

I'm fairly certain my stock Ram is faster than my 05 WK was when it was stock... would probably be pretty close with a 2010 WK.

Hmmm, was hoping this might be some type of bolt on that we could do for a little more umph, but that oviously would be mechanical and computer modifications.

Good, good. Up around 3,700 miles now. Haven't done a single mod yet lol. I had an appointment to get my windows tinted on Tuesday but I had to cancel because I had something come up. Hopefully going to get it done this weekend but apparently my tint shop has been super busy lately (they are also a detailing place). I also want to get my tails tinted, I'm waiting to see if someone comes out with a decent set of LED tails. All the ones on the market now don't really look that great to me. Still waiting for superchips to come out with their tuning/transmission/torque management support for the 2010's so I can run a tune and tweak my trans, as well as disable MDS - once they do I am going to get an intake and get rid of my muffler (just run cats straight to the dual resonators).

I still can't believe how quiet it is and how well it rides. I often forget I'm driving a 5,500 pound truck.

I would think they have a much better exhaust (manifold) setup than we do, as well...That's not the only difference of course, but I'm assuming the 'newer' Jeep hemi's have the same restrictive log we do (2005).

Now, I'm sure it does indeed put out a little more power, but I bet some of it's marketing too. A good example of this is the LS series of GM engines and their ratings depending on which vehicle it was in. Chrysler has been known to do that as well.

Oh man, sounds good. Glad to hear that (minus the waiting on the tints) :)

Arent the 09-10 5.7 Jeeps rated a little higher compared to the 05-08's?

I know its the VVT. A simple cam can do a lot. Thats why a 05-08 Cam is 400 bucks when a 09-10 cam is like 590 plus your core.

2010 GC Hemi is 357hp/ 389lb-ft according to website - not sure what earlier ones were.
