Loss of coolant

So I start smelling coolant in my 05 wk hemi and immediately realize my heatercore is probably leaking, causing the odour to come up the vents. I purchased an aftermarket warranty that will pay for majority of the bill so that's all good. I have been using my jeep to haul some stone for a home project and noticed loss of coolant. I was hoping it wasn't being dumped into my engine so I checked the oil and watched the exhaust for any abnormal amount of white smoke. Both looked good. I pulled up the front carpet and noticed the passenger side carpet/insulation was soaked. My question is after I get this repaired how can I get the coolant outta my carpet and insulation. It is pretty frigging soggy and stinks. Do I have to replace the entire carpet???

Thanks

Re: Loss of coolant

daym, coolant wont be easy to remove from carpeting that easy. id try goo gone and commercial type products more so than household friendly items- theyre stronger for the application you need it for.

the insulation is a goner though. its a wrap for that i would say.

white smoke from your tail pipe? usually a sign of oil problems though......

where did you pull up the carpet? passenger side? where exactly is the spill located in ur truck?

cheers-

Re: Loss of coolant

Coolant is water soluble, so enought water will get it out. You need to get that heater core fixed and don't drive it until it is, as the fumes you are smelling are toxic from ethylene glycol, the major constiutuent in coolant.

Re: Loss of coolant

It's going in on monday to be fixed. The odour isn't that noticable but did concern me in the carpet. I was thinking about soakin the crap outta the carpets and shop vacing it up. Repeating this until the oily residue is gone, buy wasn't sure. (good to know o have some hope) Anyone have a good site that may offer oem replacement carpets, just in case!

Thanks for the help.
