LEDs and HIDs
Hello everyone. New owner, first time poster. I just finished installing the interior LEDs and HIDs in the lows and the fogs. I don't think the HIDs have anything to do with my problem but I figured it wouldn't hurt to mention it. Tonight I was driving home and noticed that my HVAC controls were not illuminating. Also, i noticed that the footwell and backseat courtesy lights were slightly illuminated. There was a noticeable difference in light when you pressed them in to turn on the lights. But even with the car off, locked, doors closed you can look in and still see a little light output coming from those areas. I thought I might have a blown fuse (since the HVAC lights dont work), and thought maybe the HVAC and courtesy lights were on the same fuse. That can't be the case because then the courtesies wouldn't work at all. I know LEDs draw less power; could it be that I have a blown fuse for the HVAC and I need a different fuse for the LEDs for them to function properly? Sorry for the novel; if anyone has any suggestions it is appreciated.

Re: LEDs and HIDs
welcome to jeep garage! the hvac lights are a terrible design and overheat and blow out. i had to replace my hvac controls because of this. i am not an expert on the leds, but i think you need resistors for them to work properly.

Re: LEDs and HIDs
its the interior LEDs. You need to have one of them stock.

Re: LEDs and HIDs
I did not change the one in the glove box. Shouldn't that count?

Re: LEDs and HIDs
I'd leave the rear cargo door stock. That's what most guys here do.

Re: LEDs and HIDs
Now that you say that...the cargo area bulb was the last one I replaced (days after the rest of them) and I don't remember the LEDs doing that before then. But why does it matter? Are all the interior lights on a circuit? If so, why don't my two map lights partially light like the rest of them?

Re: LEDs and HIDs
no electrical engineers here bro. all we can tell you is from expereince or reading about others experiece.

i have ALL leds in my interior except that hatch socket. mone go off completely every time. i learned this trick from someone else who posted about it. the reason given was the LEDs draw so little juice that they can glow if no other bulbs in that circuit. I tried the same and it worked. end of conversation. I dont need to know why, nor do i care. i only care that I resolved the problem. now did i take the post and try every other bulb so when someone posts like you and questions why we ALL did something i can answer OF COURSE NOT.

1. do as we all have done and see if your problem goes away. report back.
2. then test the theory with every other socket on the jeep. oh yeah, and you want to know what on each circuit. go to wkjeeps, find the proper fuse and remove it,. then you can tell what ELSE is on that circuit. and be sure to document your findings with pictures and post them up here so we all have this new info.

Re: LEDs and HIDs
there is just a very small amount of current running through the circuit at all times, leaving a larger bulb in....should cut the current by not illuminating. (similar to the old school Christmas lights that would not work if 1 bulb was blown)
