Shifting Clunk

Ever so often i get a clunk or jolt or jerk when my jeep shifts from one gear to the next. In the past this has been one of a few different possibilities. Bad drive shaft u joints, bad pinion bearings, bad carrier bearings.

Is this a common issue? anyone else with this issue? BTW i have 80k miles on my wk.

Yea, mine does it too, especially if I feather the pedal just right to make it happen.

I have a whine/howl in the rear diff and I suspect that the clunk is related to the rear diff.

Same here. Especially when feathering the pedal.

This really feels like bad bearings i think. My 87 xj had a very similar issue and it wound up being worn out carrier bearings.

I will have my friend who owns his own repair shop take a look at it.

How many miles on the tranny?Could need a fluid change, with additive.I know its different,my 04 WJ auto had the same problem. With the fluid change it seemed to dissipate...

Same as the rest of the jeep. 80K miles.

The fluid is not burnt and nice and red. I also added a bit of Lucas trans fix and that helped alot with stalling issues and smoothness.

I am going to get the trans fully serviced soon.

I have the same problem on my 05 WK with 71000 miles. Yeah feathering the pedal just right between 2nd and 3rd I get a clunk as well. Fluids are fine on mine and I'm wondering what the problem could be attributed to as well.
