You are right. I just checked and the strap would hit the end of the rail and get pinched. Would be a bad idea to wrap a shirt around that area to keep the strap from coming in contact with rough...

What I wanted to do was attach the recovery strap to it before going off road and then shutting the other end of it under the lift gate. This way if needed, all I will need to do is pop the gate.
