Re: Water in battery box after rain & car washes...

This is a weird one because most areas like that on the body frame itself which use fillers and body adhesives would be done robotically--much easier, less labor intensive, and more consistent. This...

Re: Ouch

Likely not loose lug nuts. If you look closely the wheel is still happily attached to the suspension components. It didn't come off. The suspension was ripped apart and came away with the assembly.

Re: 2015 Limited V6 loses dual exhaust

More likely, one year and the feedback was that on those trim levels very few cared about it. So yes, it became an ideal spot to save money.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I believe the system may calibrate itself further with use. Mine went off a couple of times in the first 2-3000 miles for no good reason (one was approaching train tracks that were raised on an...

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

The geometry on the GC is pretty standard. Your suspension "give" will very much play a roll of course. I was just saying that if you haven't you might want to look at your alignment just in case as...

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

You're missing the time-frame part of the argument (plus you're getting a bit unnecessarily defensive--it academic on here anyway). Here's how I do it: use the GC on-road for let's say 4-5 years....

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

You seen to think everyone has the means or desire to purchase two or more new vehicles for different purposes. They don't. The GC is a compromise vehicle. Use it as a lovely mall-crawler at first,...

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

It actually can be an alignment issue even with excellent tire wear and tracking. Caster set too high will mimic heavy understeer but track awesome and have no adverse tire wear. Too much equal...

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

Buuuut...and again, a lot of people don't want the relatively un-luxurious ride of a Wrangler at first. They use their GC as you do...at first. Then use out it's remaining life as something a bit...

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

I haven't noticed any severe understeer. It IS a 5000lb vehicle. Have you had your alignment checked?

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

Again, a lot of people want to be able to use a vehicle for other things as well. A Wrangler is a bit limited in space, etc. The GC's body design is better thought of as a "uniframe" as well--it is a...

Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

Good point. If the plastic or other material itself is scratched or scuffed I agree that it does tend to be more noticeable on darker materials.

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

It's relative. I don't always assume what people mean by "heavy" off-roading is necessarily rock-crawling. Lots of people I know use "heavy" to indicate it is off-road a lot, on moderately difficult...

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

A lot of people buy these vehicles, use them on-road for a few years, THEN start going off-road with them when they've depreciated. Someone wanting a luxury or utility ride right now may very well...

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

Agreed. That happens on light interiors too. It's funny how each side of the argument (light vs dark interiors) says the other shows dirt and scuffs more. In my experience they each show them...

Re: 2015 Limited V6 loses dual exhaust

They actually do market studies on this. Enthusiasts may not believe it but...most people couldn't care less about dual exhaust. They just don't, especially on the base and mid trim levels. The...

Re: Struggling with decision... Overland or Summit

I struggled with this decision too. Ended up going with the Overland for two reasons:

1) the Summit look (front but mostly rear) is too close shape-wise to the Mercedes "cousin" (or third uncle or...

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Turns out mine has the staples too when I looked harder. Since it seems the majority (or all) have them, I suspect there's a definitive reason for them (although we may never get that answer). It's...

Re: ECO On/Off

The Hemi will "grumble" in ECO mode at lower speeds because of cylinder deactivation (MDS). It's more noticeable at lower speeds because of the lower base RPM. The only reason a 3.6 might grumble...

Re: Steering wheel vibration at 70MPH

It started as something that would only happen for the first 10-15 miles of driving. Overnight flat spotting. Them it progressed to being an all-the-time thing. Now nothing seems to get rid of it.

Re: Steering wheel vibration at 70MPH

It's not likely the Forteras in all cases. I have the same issue on 18s with Michelins and a steering shimmy started at around 6000 miles that nobody can cure. Swapped tires, new wheels, road force...

Re: Steering jiggle over bumps

Heh...I posted about this quite some time back as well. Rough roads (and it doesn't have to be horribly rough) will cause a little "jiggle" in the steering wheel. Sharp bumps can create a quick back...

Re: Steering wheel vibration at 70MPH

FYI it's not just the 20" wheels...the 18" will have this issue too. I've battled it on my ORA Overland with the 18" wheels. The suspension setup is just REALLY sensitive to any imbalance or even...

Re: Heat Shield Rattling

I was trying to figure out where that shield was on mine. Apparently the V8 doesn't have it.

I would agree that a slight bend or dimple in the shield would change it's harmonics and likely change...
