Re: WK2 DownUnder

It sounds like the GC's are starting to hall apart. I've had a few niggling problems eg. the odd blown fuse, windscreen washers have a slight blockage, one of the horns stopped working but nothing I...

In that situation a second hand motor may have come out cheaper.

Re: Jeep service costs

I hear what you are saying John. I'll get on to it when I get a chance.

There is another issue that I haven't hear anyone mention. It used to be routine practice to change diff oil after going...

Re: Jeep service costs

According to Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Maintenance information and schedules (http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_maintenance.htm) which I trust way more than any Jeep manual produced in Australia, the oil...

Re: Jeep service costs

Good find! So I don't have to do my diffs just yet. I wonder if the new gearbox schedule is intended to apply to the 5-speeder as well?

Re: Off Road 18"s

I just love the way the Jeep does it despite the independent suspension. Wheels up in the air and still it finds traction.

Re: WK2 - New battery type and location

I agree with Deserthucker. However, while your charger may not be optimum, money to buy another one is best put towards a new battery. If you need a charger, you need a new battery so just bite the...

Re: Blown Turbo Hose

Not quite. Tightening the hose clamp was just possible because nothing was moving and the nut was just in the right place. Had the hose come off it would have been impossible. I don't know the...

Re: Off Road 18"s

At the last Jeep Jambo I attended, the Lithgow police had a field day checking out the tyres of any one that looked like potential attendee heading up the highway to the Jambo site.

Re: Jeep service costs

After reading through the literature I can't see that there is anything wrong with using a friction modified oil in the front diff it just isn't necessary. I suspect the dealers do it to avoid...

It's not a matter of what the Kumho's are but what is stated on your compliance plate. The Kumho's would of course be compliant. If you have the Adventure Group I'm guessing your compliance plate...

Good job! I'm thinking of doing my diffs as well. I recall there was a debate over diff oils some time back but I couldn't find it. My manual says to use an oil with friction modifier in the front...

Yes, I see what you mean. Tightening hose clamps would not have helped this. So, so far I can find one confirmed blown silencer housing and 3 hoses popping off the intercooler.

Checked my hose...

Re: Off Road 18"s

Good post SnakeDoctor. Is there any indication if these measurements were done new or whole of life? It4vette's issue was how noisy the BFG's became as they wore.

Re: Jeep service costs

Like I've said before, fixed price servicing means they work till the money runs out then drop tools and hand the car back. Personally, I prefer to pay whatever it costs to get the job done right.

Re: Off Road 18"s

By "wet" I presume you mean wet bitumen. I have no illusions about the performance of any LT A/T tyre on wet bitumen. It's not what they are made for. Whether the D697's are better or worse than...

Re: Off Road 18"s

Re: 20" Tyre Thread

When you say 70% road 10% dirt track, this really means for every 70km driving to and from work, you are also doing 10km on dirt tracks. This is really an awful lot on the dirt. However, that 10%...

Re: Off Road 18"s

The BFG is pretty well the bench mark off-road tyre. While it is classed as an A/T tyre, I suspect there is not much given away for highway performance so I'm not surprised it is noisy. Also as...

Re: Jeep service costs

I know why the transmission oil change was not part of the fixed price servicing. It's because it simply wasn't necessary. Many modern gearboxes including the new 8-speeder, are fill for life. The...

Re: 20" Tyre Thread

Yes, it's very close but I think the worst it's going to do is carve a groove into the tread. It looks well clear of the carcase which is the main worry.

Re: 20" Tyre Thread

Hutch,
The Bridgie 697 285/60R18 is an LT tyre whereas your Kumho(?) 275/22/20 was a passenger tyre albeit an XL passenger tyre. LT tyres are relatively rigid and square whereas passenger tyres...
