I have hauled ass down a snowmobile only route (keep it on the DL) in my altitude with the fonteras... and made it through this horrendous chicago winter. I like them.

2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo Altitude

Just under 15,000 miles - I have this same issue everyone is describing here. Anything lower than full blast on the HVAC...

I'll just tell you that the factory crossbars attached to the factory rails by way of a dovetail setup. I would love to be able to help you further by thats all I got.

Additionally I just got back from 1000 mile roadtrip at times doing 95 mph+

Hey - just an fyi - I have been on the expressway doing 75-80, I have run this through an automated wash.... drove through a tsunami - no leaks

If you want the OEM rails - I would recommend...

I'll tell you why - it's because the way I just did this isn't how it is supposed to be mounted. They don't want to be liable for half-assing it and have something go wrong.

Does it work the way...

Yep - did this on first and last bolt so that housing could "lock" into position

Ok let me explain this a little better.

On the functional rails you have 2 components, the
1) stainless rail
2) the housing for that rail (which is just the outter black plastic runner)
...

Also will note - we have had some pretty low temps in Chicago this week. I took my jeep to the local quarter wash to de-ice. Sprayed the whole car - soaked the roof , no leaks that I can see via...

1) Same bolts from base rails used - literally took my stock rails off and used all same bolts and bolt holes

2) Regarding why we have the non-functional rails - I think the altitude styling...

Probably should of recorded markings down on those functional ones before mounting up eh?

I would say go off the part numbers I posted previously which are:
55079172AI (Right)
5079173AI (Left)...

hey guys haven't had a chance to tackle this project yet - just from first glance though I honestly do not know why getting longer M6 bolts , say, the M6x1.00 which the OEM functional rails call for...

Yes I saw his Rack Attack install process but even that was a little vague - he basically took out the stock base rail points, drilled new holes and plugged the originals. I think what I need to do...
