If you use a ratchet strap and pull the taper into its seat it will typically hold itself.... That is if you dont have air tools as suggested.

make sure to lube up your ball joints with a grease gun, I have had some that cured what I believe to be the same concern your dealing with, and I have had some that did not.

The fact its leaking from the pinion seal again would lead me to believe you have a worn out pinon bearing. The ticking very well could be the ebrake shoes, ultimately with how you can duplicate it...

did they replace the rear pinion seal? I ask because you mentioned they removed the driveshaft... if they did they VERY easily could have overtightened the pinion nut (or left it too loose for that...

nah it doesnt need to be removed... but like he said... there is 1 notch where each dial has to be that will allow the knob to be pulled from the housing, like the knob is keyed to the faceplate.

Grab your throttle postion sensor and jiggle it around... if your idle fluctuates this is your problem... SUPER common on the 4.7l motor, not sure exactly why but it is what it is.
