It's a big deal if your not familiar with them, there are a lot of needle bearings that could fall out and the progressive coupler is about 500.00 to 600.00 it self.

I have a 99 with the 247 and the same problem shifting into low would make a grinding and popping sound. I opened up the T case and found the teflon ring on the shifting fork was destroyed. I also...

Yes, but make sure to remove the cap and some oil from the resevoir before compressing the pistons or you will over fill the resevoir and have big mess.

I have a 1999 JGC with the 4.7L that I bought used and found a ground cable that has two leads unattached that is mounted to the fire wall in the engine compartment just in front of the passenger...

yes I see that and it does sound like it is not fully engaging and the gears are grinding and jumping off each other. I'll have to research adjustment procedures and give that a try.
