Re: '99 4.0 Overheated

I'll try to remember to take a video when the Jeep cools off tonight. Right now I just got home from work so it's still hot. Maybe I'll run out and take a video where you can hear the different fan...

Re: '99 4.0 Overheated

Nope, I'm talking electrical fan as there's nothing attached to my water pump. The fan kicks on a low speed when the engine starts. Once it gets up towards 200*F, it turns onto a high speed (you can...

Re: '99 4.0 Overheated

I'm not exactly sure on the specifics of how it works but I do know that on my fan and my buddies fan (I have an 03 and his is an 01 I believe, both 4.0) there are two separate speeds. I believe the...

Re: '99 4.0 Overheated

Check the fan and make sure it is kicking on both speeds. When you start the Jeep from cold it should come onto low speed. Once it gets to operating temperature it should engage into a second and you...

Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

Nice score. I'm not particularly interested in the GPS/Map. Just want it for the radio and it looks good. Last question, does it have an AUX input? Or is that what I need the adapter for?

Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I pulled open that first link and it just so happens to be a Harman/Becker system, I used to work there, and still know a bunch of people that still work there. I bet I...

Re: Fuel pump replacement procedures.

Well, why wait for pictures right? I did a quick Google search and it yielded this thread where someone else cut through the spare tire well and changed their pump. It includes a couple pictures...

Re: Fuel pump replacement procedures.

Yes it is possible if you cut a hole in the correct spot. I know because my buddy replaced his fuel pump, was dead set on not removing the tank, and succeeded. It's definitely not a "proper fix" and...

Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

What radio is that and does it have an aux input? I want to replace my factory radio but hate that all the aftermarket radios have lights and look crappy, IMO. I want something more factory looking,...

Re: 306,000 miles...

$2k for an aluminum head for the 4.0L?
That head alone costs way more than the motor itself.

Re: 306,000 miles...

The only issue I would like to point out is that many of the 4.0L had head issues. Make sure you check the casting number on the "new" head before you start doing all the work on it.

Re: WJ 4.0 Coolant Leak

The second picture appears to be the steering gearbox? I think the only thing above that is the main hose. I would check if it still has a good seal to the radiator.

Re: dead? crankshaft bearing problem

If the old engine was starved for oil, there's a good chance the cams are marred and need to be machined.

Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

That's odd, maybe it's not a 50/50 mix....who knows.

Regardless, if I was you then I would get a tester and see if it needs water or antifreeze and add accordingly. Also, add straight...

Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

Crazy? no. Excessive? IMO, yes.

Look at the small passages in your shower head and think how long it takes to get any build up on those (for me, it's 2-3 years before I can SEE anything). Now...

Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

Have you ever completely flushed the coolant to make sure it was the correct mixture to begin with? It is odd that you add 50/50 blend and had your coolant freeze. If all your antifreeze in the car...

Re: Where has all the coolant gone??

I would recommend checking this. It is pretty well known that the 4.0 has an issue with the casting material and the head is known to crack. This can cause the coolant to leak into the cylinder and...

If you're going to paint the roof then I would sand out the rust spots, lay some primer to keep it from coming back, and then rhino line it.

Rustoleum will slow down rust, but it won't stop it...

Re: 4.0 performance mods

If you're spending $4k to add 35 hp, you're doing it wrong. Heck, you can buy a drop in stroker motor for $4k and end up a bit short of 300 hp and over 300 lbft. If you piece a stroker build...

It's probably not the window falling off the track. The way the window motor assembly works is there is a cable that's anchored (to the window track) at ends with plastic anchors. The cable passes...

Re: Bought an 02 Overland today. Looking for some pointers.

When I got my Jeep it made an IDENTICAL noise. It was a chirping noise that was proportional to the speed. Windows up and I couldn't hear it. Going at highway speeds and the wind noise was too loud,...

We just did that on our buddy's Jeep and it was similar. It took a pipe wrench and a cheater bar to get it to move. Pulling up on the cheater bar caused the front end of the Jeep to raise about 1.5"...
