Re: oil drain valve

I'm not sure I would depend on a $3 valve made in China to keep my oil in the engine. Everything I buy from harborfreight breaks pretty fast. If the valve ever fails you'll likely be buying a new...

Re: MPG question for 4.7 guys.

I get 17-18 mpg mixed driving. I rarely go over 2400 rpms.

It's all about how you drive. I have an 04 corvette. It gets 30 mpg on the highway with cruise control, 5 mpg at the track.:D

Don't...

Re: Front brake job questions.

I bleed the brakes when I do the pads/rotors. The old fluid collects water and starts looking pretty grim. It's an easy thing to do while the wheel is off. Be sure and use a turkey baster to take out...

Re: WK Hemi Front Diff "Clutch Solenoid"

Make sure the diff is filled till overflow with oil. There are reports of diff failures with the "factory fill", which is 1 cm below the fill port. Also change the oil every 15k miles (both diffs),...

Re: Possible Oil leak?

I finally figured out the shop manual doesn't take into account the tranny cooler. The manual states 6.2 qts for the 545RFE. I put 7 qts in, and it still slipped. The dipstick was so difficult to...

Re: Possible Oil leak?

The tranny takes 2+ more qts of ATF than the book says (about 9)for pan service, so the dealer may have underfilled. If so the dealer is not too familiar with the vehicle. If it was 9 qts low it...

Re: Possible Oil leak?

The cooler line leaks are a common problem, as they are crimp sealed. Getting a tranny service for $189 is pretty reasonable. Make sure they change the filters.

Re: Whine/Noise While Driving!

Well if they shorted you on fluids they didn't short your bill! You were charged for 6 qts gear oil and 3 qts of transfer case fluid. It takes 4 qts gear oil (plus additive) 2 qts tc fluid. $47.05...

Re: Oil Filters, Dissected

Check out bobisthoilguy.com. They discuss filters regularly.

Bottom line: Fram is mostly total junk. Wix/NAPA/MOPAR are good, reasonably priced. K&N etc are very good, but too pricey.

I use...

Re: tranny oil

My 545RFE took 9 qts, maybe because of the tranny cooler? Anyway the shop manual says 7 but that isn't always correct. Use the dipstick.

Re: what services should i have done ??

I would do all the fluids, oil, diffs, tranny, transfer case, coolant, plugs, belt. Check the brakes/tires.

All of this is pretty easy to DIY.

Re: Transmission/Radiator failure

Sorry about the disaster. The 05s have 7/70 drivetrain warranty so you should be covered.

Re: I used 5w30 instead of 5w20???

I've done UOAs on plain ol' Pennzoil yellow bottle dino with my 06 4.7, and the analysis shows it easily could go 5-6k, maybe more.

Re: I used 5w30 instead of 5w20???

The newer 3.7's have switched to 5w20, instead of 30. My son's JK 3.7 uses 5w20. But a little too thick is better than a little too thin! I wouldn't run out and get an emergency oil change...

Just be careful not to use too much, as the elds can start to slip. I've heard of guys that keep adding additive little by little until the noise stops.

Re: Oil changes soon

Walmart may still have $15 off 5 qts of Pennzoil Platinum synthetic. that makes it $5 plus a filter.

Fram is the worst filter you can buy. try a Wix, NAPA or MOPAR filter.

Next step is the tranny shop...

Maybe it's the other way around, that you're losing coolant because your engine is overheating. Change your thermostat, flush the radiator.

Re: need a 4.7 owner and 3.7 owner---asap

Do the turn on three times code retrieval thing (search).

You likely have a P0113 IAT error from not reconnecting the IAT sensor correctly, or starting the car prior to connecting the sensor.

Re: adjusting the parking brake

A small screwdriver will do the trick. Don't tighten too much or the brake pads will drag. It's pretty easy.
