Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

ChyCo paid to replace the frame, and my dealer took two days for the install. Zurich paid for one day of car rental (those bastards).

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I looked carefully at the rear panel and found misalignment of the rubber seal adjacent to where the worst noise is. To me, that's an obvious manufacturing defect, so it should be covered. I have an...

Re: Restoring an old luxury car

Nearly done with the engine bay. The addition of AC in the car led to the need for a March serpentine belt system. A bit pricey but the wrap on my alternator took care of an issue with a squealing...

Re: ALL NEW NITTO NT421Q in 265/50 VR 20

I just lucked out with that feature last week. Some dumbass in the left lane decided to move over into mine, and I moved over to avoid him and brushed the curb at 40 mph. Luckily the sidewall took...

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

That's a good idea. But since I have 57k miles on the vehicle now I won't get much of a refund. I'm seriously considering just trading in. The Ecodiesel should save me $600/ year in fuel costs.

My pano had been clicking on the right side rear panel on-and-off since it was new. It wasn't that big a deal and was not that loud with the shade closed, and I rarely have it open anyway. I figured...

2014 Chrysler 300C Hemi Long Test Drive

I drove from LA to Sequoia NP, then to Yosemite, then San Fransisco and...

Re: Transmission dipstick plug removal- 2012 Pentastar equipped

Mopar lists a part # 04591959AA for "cap, oil filler", which sounds like a replacement cap. I'm thinking that this thing is simply torqued off and destroyed, so replaced.

Re: Autoweek's take on the Summit Ecodiesel

I have yet to drive one or even hear one, maybe they are being overly critical, or maybe I haven't been sitting in traffic next to one yet.

But if it is noisy, I'd never have one.

Re: ALL NEW NITTO NT421Q in 265/50 VR 20

I got mine at Discount Tire about three weeks ago. So far they seem to develop a flat spot after sitting overnight, and that goes away after a few miles on the highway. I'm hoping that this isn't an...

Re: Overland vs Limited Dilemma

Gosh I love the wood wheel. Especially on cold days since it heats up the most.

So the dash trim wood on the '14's has a matte finish? Interesting.

Re: Positioning jack stands on the WK2

OMs are written for the least common denominator, so it has to be completely fool proof. And they have no reason to make life easy for you. But the subframes carry the weight of the body under...

Re: Positioning jack stands on the WK2

The reason that they do that is for liability concerns, due to potential instability. You should note that in the high positions jack stands will tend to sway. Most sway more in just one direction,...

Re: Positioning jack stands on the WK2

No, because you have the front on two stands, then you jack the center of the rear sub-frame. Three points is the most stable configuration possible. Instead of using the pinch welds I use the ends...

Re: Positioning jack stands on the WK2

All you need is one rolling jack and two stands.
1. Loosen all lug nuts.
2. Jack the front and set it on stands.
3. Jack the back.
4. Rotate tires.
5. Lower the back.
6. Jack the front,...

Re: Quadra Lift Service Advice

That's priceless right there. Similar to when you go to a store and ask for a part and they don't have it, so they ask you why you need it.

Re: Positioning jack stands on the WK2

The problem with using pinch weld areas to jack the vehicle is that you can't set a stand under the same place that you jacked, so you can only have one wheel off at a time. So what I do is jack the...

Re: I need new tires

That would run me about $300 more than the Nittos, a lower mileage rating, and a lot more difficulty in collecting a warranty if I needed to. Better to buy local.

Re: I'm open minded.

Zero issues with mine after 50k miles, but the only off road I do are gravel roads. I dial mine to sport mode frequently for the twisty roads, which drops the vehicle 1/2", and it handles better.

Why the Nittos? I haven't found any reviews on line. Discount Tire has them by special order for $191, a good value based on their mileage warranty.

I went through two sets of the Pirelli Scorpios in my last vehicle, a 2009 Ford Expedition. They were good tires but didn't wear past 35k miles in that much heavier vehicle. And they are a lot more...
