Re: a/c only from defrost vents

I think I found the battery drainage problem. Apparently when they painted the jeep, they taped up (it was literally pushed in and being held by the tape) the rear window button and I believe this...

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

On a side note, but still somewhat related, noticing a problem with fuse #7. It appears to be draining my battery. For the last few days when I started the jeep, it hesitated somewhat, like when your...

Question mystery switch under steering column

While working on an a/c issue which is detailed in another thread, I came across a mystery switch under my steering column just hanging by a wire. I am sure it must go to something and probably...

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

Ok Frank, I did your other suggestions. I did check both the #7 and #20 fuses and #7 was blown! It also was a 15 amp fuse rather than the 10 amp that the schematics said it should be. I replaced it...

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

I will revisit all of this again tomorrow including the test in post #19. It does really appear, though, that the unit is not getting any power. I hope that it's not a short of some kind.....or...

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

Sorry Kevin, the sticker with the part number for the actuator was very worn an illegible. If I find the part number in my adventure, I will certainly pass it on to you!!

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

Ok, it's been quite the afternoon!! First, we disconnected the battery as you suggested, Frank, for about ten minutes and reconnected it. No change in the a/c.

Next we removed the actuator and...

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

Frank,

I never did disconnect the batttery. What I did was remove the IOD fuse to recalibrate the doors when I first started this venture. It appeared that when I did this to have the same...

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

Me Fix,

I have no intention of removing the dashboard just yet. I am will to live with the a/c coming from the defrost vents for now. But I am going to try to see if it's just the actuator...

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

Once again, Frank, thanks for all of your assistance!! Today I was able to proceed a little further. I removed the cover under the steering wheel and had a much better view of the actuator. I find...

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

Unfortunately, I believe mine is run off of electric rather than vacuum. It would be easier if it were vacuum related!!

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

These are pics from under the dash, under the ac. There is an opening. Do you think that this is the arm for the mode door?

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

Thanks for your help. I think that for now this fix will have to wait awhile. :( I'm not too keen on removing the dash just yet.

We had the engine rebuilt a year and a half ago, and I think that...

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

Is the mode door also called the recirc door? Or are they two different doors?

Thanks, Jenny

P.S. I would have thanked your posts, but have not figured out how to do so.

Re: a/c only from defrost vents

Frank,

Thanks for the reply. Are the mode door and blend doors the same or three different doors? I don't mind fixing this myself, but don't believe that I am skilled enough to remove the dash....

a/c only from defrost vents

I have a 00 jeep grand cherokee limited that is only blowing air from the defrost vents and has no heat whatsoever (not really worried about the heat right now). I know that the defrost vents are the...
