My 2005 did the same thing minus the bunching plastic, ended up being the shift assembly, dealer wanted 670.00 for the job, I was deployed at the time so told the wife to get it done dealership...

Would you say taking the hub off at the ball joints would help with the drivers side axle shaft removal? And how hard is dropping the front drive shaft to change the diff input seal?
