Re: Tailgate won't open--need new latch mechanism

It's a UK model so I don't want to bring it back with me. Besides, I've got my Firebird to bring back. :) lol Any recommendations on how to fix this since I"m not welding it?

Re: Tailgate won't open--need new latch mechanism

I don't know how to weld nor do I have the tools for it. I may try some JB weld or RTV. I leave the UK next Summer (2013) so I'll be selling it then however, I may get another when I get back to...

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Fault

I have never changed it and it has 166,000 miles on it. I bought it last year and it was only supposed to get me through the winter but plans have changed and now I want to keep it because I like...

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Fault

It's an ugly reddish-orange clay like substance. It's all over the radiator cap area inside. Down inside the overflow bottle at the bottom. Ugly. Going to have to wait for tax return to do it.

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Fault

My overflow bottle is empty now, and my radiator looks like it's got red sludge all in it, but still cools ok. Going to fill the overflow back up but...as of right now, no beepings or warnings.

Re: 4wd tire size

The short anwer, maybe. It all depends on the tread wear of the tires. You will cause damage by the tires spinning at different speeds due to size if they aren't "close enough" in treadwear.

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Fault

Strangely enough, once the weather turned cold, the warning stopped popping up.

I wouldn't even know where to look for this "board" any way. Is it behind the screen where the warning is posted...

Re: Tailgate won't open--need new latch mechanism

Ok, an update. The inner panel looked similar, but I don't have the side latches, mine latches on the bottom. There was a rod that came up which I tightened in it's bracket, basically moving it...

Re: Tailgate won't open--need new latch mechanism

I'm going out here in a few to take the inner panel off. I just hope the lift gate opens, i'ts about 50-50 now if it opens or not. I just wish there was a way to open it if the handle doens't work....

Re: Tailgate won't open--need new latch mechanism

Thanks! Part of my fear is that once I close the lift gate, it won't open. Is there a way to open it from the inside if the handle doens't work on the outside? I'll leave it open when I do the...

Re: Tailgate won't open--need new latch mechanism

That...is a thing of beauty! lol Thanks! I'll just have to play with it using a screw driver or something to mimic the latch with the door open. Which direction do I go to "tighten up" the latch...

Re: Tailgate won't open--need new latch mechanism

How did you adjust it? Will I be able to see it readily or will I have to mess with it quite a bit to get it to where I want it?

Re: Tailgate won't open--need new latch mechanism

I'll take another look at it tomorrow. I didn't see one, but that doesn't mean I didn't miss it. It's just really annoying to go shopping, only to have to climb over the back seat and both car...

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Fault

No, I haven't, but I figured if it's anything like the Alero I had, there would be a reset button somewhere but I can't find one.

Re: P/N for spark plug wires?

I didn't buy it from a dealer, I'm the 6th owner as seems after digging a bit further on teh older inspections. When it was registered originally, so far as I can tell, it was 2 Jan 99...so as far...

Re: P/N for spark plug wires?

Well, it's registered here in the UK as a 99...and that's how the dealer registered it. Why would they do that?

Oh well, it's good to know at any rate. So, with that out of the way, does...

Hmm...mine wasn't imported...well, it was, but it was to the dealers here. It's a UK version jeep, not an American spec one.

Re: P/N for spark plug wires?

Now that's interesting. I wonder if the the British version didn't do the coil-pack change over on a different date...if at all? Or...maybe mine really isn't a 99.

Re: P/N for spark plug wires?

Ok, I looked at a 97 model that is also a British version (steering wheel on the right side) and it has a cap and rotor. Did the earlier version (98 and earlier) of the Grand Cherokee use a cap and...
