Re: The MY14 2nd Battery and DC Thread

Yes there certainly is a lot of differing opinion on this. I guess the popular option is to go with a DC/DC converter. However, I've never been one to go for popular options. To me, using a DC/DC...

Re: 20" Tyre Thread

I was worried about the that too. A sharp rock could wedge itself between the brake calliper and rim and slice the rim open like a can opener. I guess it could happen with 20's too, it just needs a...

Re: Off Road 18"s

Tyre compounds change all the time to adjust for market forces so it's a bit of a lucky dip year to year. Anyway, one can't expect an AT tread to perform anything like a highway tread on a wet...

Re: The Towing thread

I agree that if there is any chance of encountering roots or rocks then LT's are the way to go. However I recall the day some of us had at Stockton Beach with our WK2's and that those with the stock...

Re: The Towing thread

On sand, at a given tire pressure, both 18" and 20" GC wheels should perform about the same. However, I would think that 18s could safely go down to a lower pressure so that would make the 18s safer...

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I too found the Bluespark dissatisfying at the power settings but I now have it on C9, the full torque setting, and I love it. With just a touch of the throttle it pulls like a steam train. The...

Re: WK2 - New battery type and location

I think it's for cold rather than heat. Down here in Oz, our Jeep batteries come installed perfectly nude. I'm amazed that there is so much concern over heat on batteries. I'm an old fart now and...

Re: ATTENTION:Offroad Jeepers! Opinions needed for this forum!

You guys in the States will be happy to know that the arse has fallen out of the Aussie dollar. Not long ago it was about parity but now it's worth only about 73 USD. My plastic belly pan ripped...

Re: WK2 - New battery type and location

There is a big difference in having 50lbs under the floor than having it high up in the engine bay. Angular moment of inertia is proportional to mr2. In this case one could call the angular...

Re: WK2 Lower Front Guard

Of course you could drive but weather it is entirely legal is a matter for the road authority in the state you are in. Of more importance is what your insurance company thinks of it. However,...

Re: 20" Tyre Thread

The only one I could find is the BF Goodrich All-Terrain TA KO2 but it's an LT285/55R20 so it might be rather snug in the wheel well.

Re: 20" Tyre Thread

They don't "seem" so much stronger, they are. They are intended to flex less and carry much higher tyre pressures so as to be stable and carry higher loads. Although, paradoxically, at a given tyre...

Re: 20" Tyre Thread

Crawling over closely packed pine logs is one thing, driving all day at 100kph on an outback gravel road in an Aussie summer is quite another.

Awful, and presumably the guy who died was the one who stopped to help. I shudder at the thought of shackles attached to elastic snatch straps.

Re: Off Road 18"s

I didn't think of that. That would be worth the extra cost. There is also the slightly taller gearing so perhaps a bit of fuel saving as well.

Re: Off Road 18"s

I've had no problems with the 697's either and that's after 30,000km and still a bit to go. However, I've got them in the stock size 265/60R18LT. I presume you got the wider 285/60R18LT's for that...

Re: WK2 - New battery type and location

The battery is one of the heaviest components in the car, just try lifting one. Locating it as low as possible substantially improves cornering stability. The old VW beetles had them under the rear...

Re: What are the best three power upgrades for the 3.6L V6?

Quite right! A six will never sound like a V8. The number 8 has factors of 8, 4 and 2, all even numbers. A six has factors of 6, 3 and 2, two even one odd number. So the 8 will always sound more...

Brilliant! I was thinking the same thing just the other day but more in terms of a hose real. In Africa I saw them being used as charcoal wok burners but that would be for steel wheels.
