our JGC is "nav ready" to get nav on the vehicle, do I have to go to the dealer or is there another way of getting it cheaper?

The dealer. $600, and it will be missing the traffic data and other features of the RA4 unit which is a factory option on the Limited and standard on the Overland and Summit.

I was quoted $799 from the dealer that I got my GC from. The dealer is in Ontario, Canada. Haven't done it yet... Pretty upset that I was quoted much higher than everyone else.

It's not even a software update...it's just an "activation" by entering a code number from Chrysler.

I know firsthand because I had my NAV activated on my 8.4A for free at the dealership (long story).

I believe that you are buying the activation code from Chrysler. While there is some room to negotiate, I think the dealer pays Chrysler for each activation.
