I replaced the factory shocks about 50,000 miles ago with the orginals from the dealer. They seem to be shot already. Bouncing ride and handling. Can anyone recommend a replacement brand of a better quality that will maintain the stock ride and handling?

Most go with Bilstein, seems to give a much better ride then OEM.

what can I expect to pay for a set and the best place to get them? Just order off web and then find a place to install or what? Is there a certain model Number?

Probably best to buy online and when possible install yourself or find a good shop nearby. The shocks on the WJ are quite easy to install when you have some basic tools. (socket set and spanners). Don´t know where the guys buy them, maybe one will chime in on this.

Gentlemen,

I purchased a set of the Bilstein HD's from Kolak just before Christmas. They arrived within a week and the price was better than any I found online.

Unlike the Ranchos that I was previously running, The Bilstein shocks fit perfect! The valving is also better than the Ranchos and controls the ride much better...

Part #'s are:
24-029636 for the fronts
24-029643 for the rears.

I plan on getting the Bilsteins when it's time for new shocks and I've done some looking around online for the best price. It seems that either Summit Racing or TireRack have very similar pricing.

Bilstein here also. Probably the best single mod made to the WJ.

I got gabriel max control. Seem better than stock but I think if I did again probably would have saved alittle more and went Bilstien. What I got is great for daily driving and ride quality is fine as well. Wanted to keep stock ride height so thought those would do.

Yes try to do the install yourself if you have the right stuff. I HAD TO CUT OFF MY TOPS ON THE FRONT SHOCKS with a dremel. Stuff was rusted solid. not bad for not replacing until 190k! IT WAS A Pain in the ass. But smooth sailing after that just make sure everything is tight ;-). Other than cutting grinding the fronts. It took about 4 hrs but I took my time with every thing.
