2005 Liberty keyless entry problem

I just started having a problem with the keyless entry on my 2005 Liberty Limited. I replaced the battery in the key fob but it will only operate the locks when I am standing right next to the driver side door. It must be something wrong with the wireless receiver in the vehicle but I don't know where it is located or how to diagnose a problem with it. Any ideas out there?
