Hey Fellow Jeep owners. I wish I was writing about some memorable adventure I recently had, but this is definitely not the case. The battery light came on yesterday when I left the house and I drove it for about 10, 15 mins and the SUV just died when i was pulling into a parking spot at Lowe's. So I opened the hood and then smelled a slight scent of burning like wire. That was the red flag that told me that my day was not going to go the way I planned it. I was offered a Jump and that did not work. and the negative connection, which I clamped on last before trying to start the SUV was very sparky while attaching the Neg clamp. not sure if that indicates a short somewhere. The Jeep would not start. In fact it was completely dead no dash lights nothing.
I had it towed to my Mechanic and they changed the alternator but the car still would not run. So They tried to do their absolute best to find what was causing the issue and they believe that the alternator may have overcharged the system and Quote, " Fried the PCM". So the Jeep Grand Cherokee gets to sit at my buddy's shop for Memorial Day Weekend. I am also supposed to be moving on June 1st. So this is really not a good situation...ANY HELP at all and or some sound advice would be exponentially useful. I still owe $4500.00 on the loan just to pour some more salt into the wound.....

This sounds very similar to what happened a last summer with my 2011 JGC V6. Battery light. I drove for a short distance and the car died. Had to have it towed. Turned out the alternator died and in the process it took out PCM. About 198K miles at the time. Took a while to get the new part. I have the life time warranty, so cost was not a problem.

I have 204K on it now. Just had the oil cooler replaced.
