Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We just purchased a 2014 Limited yesterday with the Hemi. I was inspecting some things today and noticed that beneath the radiator cap it had some buildup or sludge? It only has 55,000 miles currently. Could anyone help out with what this could be? Thank you in advance!

Every independent mechanic I’ve ever talked with laughs at the factory recommended coolant change intervals. I change mine every three years regardless of mileage. Only 24,000 miles on my ‘14 so far with no corrosion or sludge.

I definitely thought the interval was quite comical. I just had the dealership do a flush this morning. (Only because of the warranty) I will definitely do something similar to what you perform. Thank you for the response.

Hi Trackstar1,
If you are unable to remedy this on your own and decide to continue to work with your dealer, feel free to PM us. We would be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist to assist.

It's very likely the previous owner added non-OAT coolant. Adding non-Oat coolant to Oat coolant would create sludge like texture to form in the radiator and hoses.

It appears that was the issue. All went well at the dealership. I checked the fill neck area again today and it looks very clean.
