Hello.. Wondering if anyone else has had aggressive downshift clunking with the new ZF transmission? Taken to dealer twice and they dont do anything. Should I disconnect the battery to reset ?

I have a 2014 GC Laredo with similar issues. Shifts hard enough to feel it in the brake pedal when stopping. Also had it actually lunge forward in park when pushing ignition on or off or taking my foot off the brake. Started acting up at 5,000 miles. Clunks and bumps shifting between P, R and D. Been to the dealer, they couldn't find anything, going back again next week. Plus U-connect won't remember my phone, "no fix at present." Very frustrated, I haven't even made a payment on the vehicle yet. Traded in a Ford Escape that had a broken valve spring 7,000 miles over warranty. Glad I bought the warranty that provides a rental car. Will take it in weekly if necessary until something gets fixed.

Hello , I am sorry to hear that you are having problems. I have had all of those problems and more. Per the advice of my Attorneys , I cannot comment anymore until my Lawsuit has been finished . Good luck with your Grand Cherokee.

Hi All, I am having the same problem with my 2014 GC Summit, it barely has 3k miles and ran like a charm for the first month or so. I took it in earlier this week and was told an update "should" fix it. Well the problem persists, it shifts extremely hard going both way up and down shifting, in sport and drive mode, however it runs better in manual. I was told that the problem would not go away until some new software was approved by the EPA...sounds like a load to me...any suggestions? I do not want to keep driving it like this, feel that more damage will be done in the long run. Thanks all.

no, actually, any shift reprograms have to get govt approval in the US.. that part is not a load. this is to keep companies from getting EPA approval on an completely undriveable car and then 'fixing' it later.

I have a V8, so my experience won't directly map.

But.

Shifts (particularly downshifts) will be harsh in Sport mode, because the transmission aggressively heads for lower gears, sometimes when you don't expect it.

Might be useful to reset the PCM and then drive it like you want to drive it. Don't change modes, don't mess with the paddles, just drive it like you want to drive it.

I also have the V8, the issue actually occurs most in D when the car is upshifting. I will have a chat with them about a reset and hope that does the trick.

Back into the shop again at a different dealer this time with my 2014 GC Laredo. Told me they did a "transmission update", but the paperwork states "flashed TCM up to date". So they didn't actually do or find anything. Still shifting very rough, probably causing damage over the long run. For whatever it's worth, this issue isn't unique to Jeep. I drove a 4 cyl. Dodge Avenger for my loaner and it was having similar issues with rough shifting.

Be sure to keep all paperwork in case you need it in the future.

um, actually, they did exactly what they said. TCM is the Transmission Control Module, which, um , controls the transmission. "Flashing" it (loading new code into it) is exactly a "transmission update"

Hi all,

Wanted to follow up on my problem. Chrysler sent their district rep out to drive the car with me and he experienced what many of you are talking about. The horrid shifting, for me, both up and down. He had a Chrysler engineer come out and look at my transmission since the service depts are not allowed to touch the transmissions. After three weeks, they have told me they ordered a new valve body and that my car appears to be working properly. They will be driving it and testing it for the next few days and then I should get it back. I will update again once I have the car back.

Hi All I have been having the same issue on my jeep with the transmission. I took my jeep in to get serviced with SERVICE BULLETIN 21-007-13, DATED AUGUST 03, 2013 but the issue continued but behaved differently. The most noted change was that the engine would rev at 2500 RPM before switching from 1st to 2nd gear primarily when the jeep was cold. I recetly came across a new bulletin (21-007-13 REV. A) Dated September 11, 2013 (Rapid Response Transmittal 13-066) and decided to take my Jeep in to the dealership. Their ADP system did not list the new Service bulletin for my car. I asked them to take a closer look and read the service bulletin I provided. It clearly states that it superseded the original service bulletin which was showing up on their ADP system. They finally gave in and flashed the Transfer Case Drive Train Control Module (DTCM) and the Transmission Control Module (TCM) with new software. So far everything seems to be good.
