Has anyone tried to hardwire a radar detector in their 2014 yet? I want to tap power from the mirror for my V1. It looks like the mirror is different in the 2014, at least on the Overland, so I dunno if the DIYs here will apply. I haven't tried yet but probably will next weekend, it is still damn cold here in Chicago.

Thanks

Suction cup mount, works fine in my other car. I ordered an additional one so I can easily swap between cars without having to redo the suction cup part each time. I want to place it just left of the mirror up at the top of the glass.

I'll poke around with it next weekend, maybe even create the DIY unless someone (hopefully) beats me to it.

I haven't done one in a JGC but I went the tap-a-fuse route with my 335 and it's worked perfectly even though the mirror is right there. Seemed to be a cleaner and less potentially destructive solution than using the mirror/sunroof.
I went through the mirror on my M3 and the cable is hardly noticeable. I'll poke around and see what I can do.

You brought up old memories, I had a 335 before trading it for my M3. Did lots of tuning to that one before I got rid of it, ran a 12.8 quarter mile with 19" street tires. Spent way too much time on e90post...

By the time you get the signal and slow down your goose is deep fried no matter how you hardwire it, next thing ya know you're being handed a citation, the slower you go the more you can see the faster you go the worse the tunnel vision gets.

Does everyone here drive a 3 series as well ??? LOL

The V1 has bailed me out many times, already paid for itself easily. A good cop can beat a radar detector in some cases but most are too lazy to do it.

I'll give it a try next weekend and report back to you guys.

The V1 has also saved me quite a few times. I don't expect it to really save me if I'm the only car on a long straight road. But the V1 has picked up a signal around a bend and allowed me the time to slow down before the cop actually gets a visual on me. It obviously does it's best when other cars are on the road and the cop is checking speeds on cars ahead of you.

I traded an E46 M3 for the JGC :)

I used this to tap in to the rearview mirror. I don't believe there were any major changes to the rearview so look for the same wires.

Got it done by tapping the rear view mirror with the invisicord. Really easy to do once you figure out how to put the mirror back on. This was a little different than the DIY that uses the harness in the overhead console. I took some pics and will post my DIY soon.

Too funny! I currently have a 335xi and am looking at an Overland this fall. Love the turbo, but car is getting small & even with V1 & Laser Interceptor there are too many damned speed traps.

There's no doubt in my mind that my 9500 has paid for itself. It's obviously great on the highway, but it's alerted me to a number of speed traps locally that I would never had been aware of otherwise. I don't drive crazy fast but I do like to drive a speed that I feel comfortable handling. And usually, that's a *bit* faster than the posted speed limit. :D

So, true story. This morning, I was just driving through a nearby through street, speed limit inexplicably 25 MPH, and my 9500 goes off with a KA band warning. Occassionally, they'll put up one of those stationary detectors showing your speed, but those are always K band. So, I slowed to 25 MPH. Yup, right there was a cop. A car 2 behind me got pulled. It would have been me for sure.
