I am currently looking into buying a 2014 jeep overland 4x2- v6. I have heard to many bad reviews about them. The one I am looking into was built on dec. 9 2013. I am wondering if most of the problems were fixed or they still ongoing? I couldn't imagine getting a new vehicle and having to bring it to the shop numerous times.

Well, I can't speak for the Overland directly because I own a 2014 Laredo. For the things that they share, I have noticed that the 7 inch display where the speedometer is lags sometimes, but you will probably get over it. This is the only thing I can think of that will be similar to the Overland.

Also, it depends on what you're getting on the Overland. Is it a 4x4, Air suspension, etc. Sorry I couldn't be much help but hopefully I helped a little.

If that is the biggest issue I can handle that! Ha! Thanks so much
Well that one of the biggest issues I have, the only other one I have is the 5.0 Uconnect also lags and sometimes when I start the car, it will show I have no presets, but they come back about 5 seconds after I start the car. I know the overland comes with the 8.4 Uconnect system so I do not know if it also has those problems. Other then that, it's a pretty reliable car (even though some people put up bad reviews)

I have a 14 Overland built 7/15 and so far I have had zero problems with it. There have been complaints about rough shifting but I have not had that. There also is a recall out that causes the dash to go black, but I have not seen that problem either. I think Jeeps built after about August 1 have the recall already installed. I would not be afraid of purchasing one. Al

Thanks so much. Yes I was 100% set until the reviews. So we kind of started looking into the durangos but looking at them in person the Cherokees definitely stand out and are more appealing to me anyways. The More I review it does seem a lot of the reviews are within the recall stage thus the problems for those consumers but it's still good to find out if it's ongoing ya know. Our first choice color is billet silver built December 9th and the other is granite metallic built July ( both black interior) however since the silver was built in December and our first choice I think we will take that route. Thanks for your feedback hopefully this week is the week! :) happy Monday

One more thing, never just say "Cherokee" the new Cherokee is offensive to the Grand Cherokee lol. Other than that you will love your new Billet Silver Overland. One more thing, if you decide to off road any, you want may want to consider the 4x4 version.

We have a 2014 Overland built back in Feb/Mar 2013 and other than the software bugs that have fixes with the TSB and 2 recalls, the car has been awesome. The air suspension has been flawless so far, tranny is still butter smooth, and the V8 while still a gas hog, still puts a smile on my face when I stab the pedal. The only thing I can complain about is not being able to get some of the newer features they added in the June/July builds like the ACC w/Stop which you will have if you get that package and not being able to turn off ECO permanently.

Anything built after August 2013 has the bugs worked out.

Bought my Billet Silver Overland last month. It was built in October. Right after the purchase the dealer did the update to the Uconnect system and a flash update for the transmission. I have not had any issues with it and love the vehicle. If I can make my 35 mile commute with minimal traffic I walk into my house with a big, dumb, grin on my face even after a month of driving it! Just get yourself a recently built one and you will not regret it.

Please remember that if you read bad things on forums most people come to forums to solve problems with their ride or to brag about their ride. Few of us are enthusiasts. I am on a number of auto forums and they are all pretty much the same regarding the brand of car or truck regarding how good or bad they are.

Very few cars or trucks are lemons but it does happen once in a while. Does seem like JGC has the bugs worked out pretty well but I will find out first hand in a couple weeks.

I would not be buying mine if I had any thoughts it was going to be a problem child.

I also don't use Consumer Reports as my bible but simply as a guide. Many times their evaluations and reviews don't agree at all with mine.

I am sure you will make the right choice for you regarding what ride you choose.

For light offroading, the 4x4 will probably do nicely.
If your offroading includes big bumps, water, and such, you might want to look at the Off Road package which includes skid plates and the ability to lift the entire vehicle via the air suspension.

Dunno about your area, but 4x2's may be a bit lower in resale value than the 4x4s.

As for your original question, the early 2014s had a few teething problems, with the earlier the build, the more there were in general. In particular the UConnect hardware on early units appears to have been sourced from the Kmart disposal bins.

By summer, this appears to have been much better made, and allegedly the units built after late August are more like any other new car from anyone including the premium brands--you can have troubles but they are far less likely.

Got my black/light frost 4x2 V6 Overland Last week and couldn't be happier. I've experienced none of the issues I've read in this forum. The ride is incredible. Shifts are smooth and it has plenty of power. Build quality and material finish is right up there with Lexus. Just got the front windows tinted 20% to match the rear. Full set of Husky weather beater mats on the way. I'm in love!

We have a July build Limited and have had no issues. If there are upgrades or recalls for nuisance uConnect issues I will have that done when I get the oil changed for the first time.

Remember that on forums like this those who have problems are more vocal than those who do not. Kind of skews it to look like the probs are bigger than they actually are. It's like this on all car forums. Go over to bimmerforums and see what I mean.

Buy the Jeep.

Son has one that was built in November and I just got one (limited) that was built in December. He has only experienced a problem where the GPS said it was recalculating when he was on a highway. It only happened once and when he started out then next day it did not happen again. Thinks that the recent update to UConnect has a patch for that problem.

I have not experienced any issues other than the antenna for the radio is marginal at best.
