2014 JGC Texting Success

Hi all,

After delivery of my 2014 Grand Cherokee I was really disappointed when my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 i747 failed to work with the Messaging function on my radio. The Messaging button was greyed out and I searched fruitlessly for a workaround. Well, I'm happy to report I now have my Grand Cherokee reading my texts incoming out loud and I am using my voice to author new texts and send them out.

Here is a guide to rooting your phone: READ CAREFULLY

AT&T Galaxy S3 Rooting, ROMs, and Hacks - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

This fix will require that your Galaxy S3 is rooted. You will need to flash the operating system to the following ROM:

The ROM is located here:

Home

You will need to download Build 7:

Downloads - d2att-d2tmo - Slim-d2att-4.2.2.build.7-OFFICIAL

Flash the ROM per the instructions on your ROOTED S3.

This ROM has updated Bluetooth MAP profiles that enable the texting functions to work on the radio.

DISCLAIMER: I assume no liability if you brick your phone. If you have never rooted and flashed a new ROM on your phone I highly suggest you do your homework prior to doing so as the result could be an inoperable device. Although flashing your ROM is easy and relatively safe it will void the warranty in most cases. Although I have never had any problems I consider myself pretty tech savvy. It is a very easy process as long as you know what your doing.

Oh by the way, I am loving the new functionality and now I dont have to get a blackberry! ENJOY and good luck!!!

In this case if you deleted your message history and limited your conversation history to **I Believe** 20, then it will work. Simply a work around at this time, I expect longer than a 20 message history should be supported at some point in the future.
Thanks, I will give this a try...hopefully updates to the system will allow for more messages.

update: So I deleted all messages from my phone, and had someone text me. nothing...I shut off the jeep, start it back, and there is the text that I already read. Is anyone else using the S3 on Verizon and having this successfully work?

Thanks
Has anyone had any luck with the HTC Rezound on VZW?
Are there phone models that work 100% with the messaging feature the way it is intended? Please post your model if it works with all the uconnect messaging features.
Droid RAZR on Verizon works fine running jellybean code. Send/receive/phonebook
AT&T Galaxy S3 here...All worked great until the Android 4.1.2 update. Calling works, but messaging doesn't anymore. Even tried a factory reset on the phone....no dice.

Fail.
I can receive texts and have them read to me, I can send a text via the list of premade texted. When I try to send a voice recognition text, it goes through all the motions. It will read back the voice text I made perfectly, then ask if I want to send. On my yes it says sending, them message come up that it failed. Do I need a special or newer phone for this to work? My phone is a BlackBerry curve on verizon network.

Thanks for any help

Will
They are still having challenges getting anything but preformatted texts to send.
Is there any update for the iPhone that will allow the reply button to not be greyed out? I agree it's still nice to be able to use Siri to respond, but it would also be really nice to be able to use the function the way it was intended to be used.
My iPhone 4s is paired with my uconnect 5.0, but after getting the radio replaced by Jeep, I can't get it to download text messages. I had it reading texts before radio was replaced. Any suggestions?

Check the Version number in the radio... let us know what the Software Version is.
where do i find the version #? I looked at all the possible settings an did not see it.
When crafting a message via voice it reads it back to you. So you can experiment with saying funny stuff then seeing if it got it right, and hearing her say it. She correctly heard and repeated "jackass" yesterday while I was in the car with clients. We all got a good laugh.

I have the Samsung note 2 and before I got the 13.19 update it worked. I was able to reply and it read the texts to me as they came in. After the update it only loads the texts that are on my phone. Any idea when an update is coming out? I heard it was supposed to come out today.

Yes, it has been confirmed that outgoing texts have been rectified in the next release. It appears that this release has been put off for 1 to 3 weeks at this time.

On an RA2 you must be in "Dealer Mode" PDF attached is the update instructions but gives you the easiest way to see the information.

Will outgoing texts be implemented for iPhones?

I am wondering if the problem with outgoing texts is related to the encrypted connection part of the bluetooth Message Access Profile spec?

Good to hear. Thanks. With this tweak, I ain't got no complaints about my Overland and a ton of superlatives.
Hi All,

This is an informative thread. Last weekend I changed phones from the iPhone 5 to the HTC One on AT&T primarily for the purpose of sending and receiving texts (free form). The HTC One is running Android 4.3. I also added my Uconnect subscription, which makes the in-vehicle portion of the text annotating work.

The results are mixed. After a Radio reset (holding both buttons down until the Jeep logo shows) helped bring this feature online so the text annotating via Uconnect would work. The creation of texts works flawlessly now.

Here's the downside- now I am no longer getting the notifications of new incoming texts on the screen. They are coming in and I can check for them under messages, but the voice prompt and screen is no longer telling me they have arrived.

Does anyone know what is happening here and how to fix this? I am running UConnect 13.48.3... or whatever the newest Viamobile version is. I have the RA3 system.

Willix, anyone...??

Thank you!

Bump.. anyone have any ideas on the above issue I'm having with the HTC One?
My 8.4AN/RA4 is running 14.05.3
My Moto X is running 4.4.2 on Verizon.
Hangouts is main SMS app with stock messaging app disabled.

I can confirm that messaging works. Uconnect reads my incoming SMS just fine and announces who it came from. I can also reply via voice or pre-populated quick replies.

Now few odd things:
1. When replying to SMS for contacts that have multiple phone numbers stored Uconnect replies to wrong number. ex: SMS came from my wife's iphone, Uconnect replied to her work BB or even to her work land line. Resolved it by splitting contacts, or by manually sending new SMS to correct number.

2. Whenever I use Uconnect to send SMS, on my Moto X in hangouts, SMS shows as sent twice. Interestingly only 1 sms is received on the other end. No big deal I guess.
Interesting. Well, with the last AT&T or uconnect over the air update (the kind you don't elect for) my texting stopped working altogether. The icon is now greyed out. After working fair well for info. In and free form voice dictating, the feature no longer works.

So aggravating. I pay $20 a Month to uconnect for this service and they cannot even keep up with the Android updates. They are 9 months behind.
