For those of you who have updated their software to 13.19.0 and have had to bring their vehicle in to have their radio serviced:

Are you being asked how it is that you have the latest software on an older radio?

If so, what are you telling them?

I have an appointment this coming week because of the " phone needs service" message.

Push the dealer for a replacement. Willx and I are working very closely with these radios and without going into much detail if you Jeep was built before June 12th push for a replacement.

That's what I'm planning to do but I'm wondering if they will question how I have the latest software version? They know they didn't do it....

I don't want the fact that I did the update to 13.19.0 to be a problem for me.

The truth!

There is too much fear of service departments expressed by many people. The way to approach them is to tell them what you did, tell them what the problem is, and ask them what they plan to do about it.

My service department hadn't heard of the update (13.15.4) and appreciated it when I printed them a copy of the instructions.

Incorrect. 13.19.0 is a FULL RELEASE VERSION. Available to all dealer and support channels. You can walk into any dealership in the country and request it.
I'm aware of this. Problem is my dealer didn't do the update, I did.......was concerned this may be a problem when they check my radio.

Your given the dealership way too much credit. Bring it in for service tell them it's not working. Would bet a pretty penny they don't even ask let alone acknowledge it except when they go to apply the update and see its already done and then, on to the next troubleshooting step...

all you have done is save them a step! :) since part of the diagnosis is to update to 13.19.0

I have a radio on order.

They did ask me how i put the 13.19.0 on and i told them. I put it on a USB and loaded it as per the instructions. They said "ok".
the instructions directly from Chrysler states "For your convenience, you can choose to either perform the update yourself or take your
truck to your preferred Dealer to have the update completed by a service technician, free of
charge. If you choose to bring your vehicle into a dealer to have update preformed, simply
reference the Uconnect 8.4A or 8.4AN software update when scheduling your appointment."

so You were 100% allowed to do this yourself. If they ask where you got the software... "The internet"
(You dont have to -and shouldnt- give them specifics as to where you got the update/instructions - dont want to get anyone here in trouble!)

They tried to make me come in for them to check the radio first... I really didnt want to do this since i knew 100% that i needed a new radio (especially since i had 13.05 on mine.. i knew it was old!)
I gathered all the info (the star case # etc) - and talked to the salesman that sold me the jeep (only had it a week at this point).
He talked to the service manager. After a few questions from the service manager:
"How did you do the update" > with a USB like the instructions say
"where did you get it" > the internet
"What are you seeing go wrong" > Phone service required + blackouts + lockups + red light on mirror etc
"what is your SXM id" > gave him the number

He got back to me and said - all set. New radio on order!

You were Right, They didn't ask me anything, all I needed to tell them is that I got the " phone needs service" message.

They told me the radio needs replaced and ordered me a new one.

Thanks for the help.

Hold on, hold on. I am still running 13.05 on my radio and it has been working fine since March, which is why I hesitate to update to the new software. Judging by the comments on this thread, it seems I need a new radio?????????????? That is absolutely a bunch of BS if that's the case and I am extremely disappointed in Chrysler for loading back units into their trucks.
