This seems like WAY too much work, money, and time, for what? Aesthetics?

I think the dial with a filler plate would look much worse than the shifter.

My first few vehicles in life were manuals, so my hand is always on any shifter. The shifter in the '14 is really comfortable and gives me something to rest my hand on. I would hate having the dial in the Ram.

How touchy is the shifter? I've always rested my hand on the shifter as well and was worried that the 14 shifter would be too touch for this. I don't want to be constantly shifting it into neutral....

I like it! I think it makes more sense than the joystick in the GC...
