Wow. I didn't realize that this lifter/CAM issue was such a common problem. I have a 2013 Grand Cherokee Limited with ~150k miles and started to hear a ticking sound. I figured it was a lifter so brought it into the dealer. They gave me a call and said the lifters and CAM was damaged and there were metal shavings in the engine. In short they are requesting for a new engine replacement but need a specialist to confirm the issue to Chrysler since I have a lifetime warranty (thankfully I purchased that !!). A new ENGINE, seriously after only 150k miles. I had a 2016 V8 Grand Cherokee Limited prior to my current that I drove to well over 250k miles and I loved that car. I figured I couldn't go wrong with an updated Jeep but I have been disappointed with this Jeep from the first month with so many issues from electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and now a full on ENGINE.
I am yet to see if this is going to be fully covered with my lifetime warranty but with seeing so many people going through the same common issue there should be action that is taken for Chrysler to fix these as recalls. Just MHO! I will try to post when I get more info on my headache to the group

I need to fix my misquote from my previous post. I mentioned in my last post that I had a previous "2016 V8" when in reality it was a 1996 V8 Grand Cherokee. I drove that car for 16 years. That car was a beast and I loved driving every mile on that car. I wish Chrysler would make the new ones as well as they did the old ones!

I have a follow up to my current jeep at the dealer. Chrysler came back with the OK to replace the engine instead of doing a rebuild. Replacement is under my warranty so hopefully it will be take. Care of. Lifter was damaged and CAM was worn off so badly that there were metal shavings throughout the engine, oil pan, etc. the saga continues

Potentially add me to this list.

MY12 146K miles

Jeep Popped a check engine during a Remote start for Cyc 1 Misfire. Plugs are 30k miles Swapped coils.

Loaded Torque app watched the misfire counter My Misfire only appears under Heavy Load or WOT around the 4-5k range during a WOT she stumbles hesitates once passes 5k rpm clears up and Torque shows 100+ misfire counts. Check engine light never flashes.

If i drive sensibly the misfire counter never rises.

My Dealer is so backed up it wont be until Mid February. I stopped by Dealer they scanned it showed P0301 and cleared and it basically sent me on my way said take it easy until i can bring it in.

Maxcare is gunna be pissed less than 1500 miles ago they just replaced both driveshafts and transfercase and radiator for the 2nd time.

Found this across the net Basically remove the Oil MDS valve and if they see shiny the only option is Full engine replacement

Lets get this started. Just had lifter failure at 77,000 miles destroy my engine. Too many people experiencing this without any ramifications from Jeep.

Too many apathetic owners, will not get off their backside and start something.!! Rather pay thousands out of their own pockets than make a company putting a dodgy product on the market be held liable.Even very low klm vehicles in warranty having the ongoing lifter problem.

My lifters just failed on my 2014 Jeep SRT which only had 47k miles on it, and the mechanic shop is recommending that I do a complete engine swap. We're waiting for them to drop the engine and check the oil to determine if any metallic particles from the cat iron shaving made it's way into the block. Regardless, even if the engine is salvageable, I'm still looking at a $6k job easily to replace the cam shaft + push rods + 16 lifters since Im not gonna keep that faulty shit design lifters in my car. Would rather replace them all with the Hellcat lifters since those seem to have less issues.

Not sure what to do here, does anyone have any experience with this? Would comprehensive insurance cover something like this? Am I better off just forking out the $12k for a new 6.4L motor? Should I lemon law the vehicle? And doesn't a complete engine swap come with it's own set of issues if it's not done by the manufacturer? I called Jeep and they basically gave me the middle finger on this. it's really disappointing, this is my third SRT and I'll never buy another jeep/chrysler/dodge again after this shit show.

Obviously this is a known problem with all the hemi motor range.I would lemon law the vehicle as thousands of these are failing in Rams toJeep SRTs. Bare in mind that a class action has been insigated ahainst FCA Stellantis over this very problem! I would see what warranty on a new crate engine however they can still fail again. There is no such thing as Hellcat lifters! All lifters in nonMDS hemis have the same numbers from since since around 2016.Google No such thing as specific hellcat lifters ,research complete.even non genuine lifters failing.!
GMH have the same lifter failing problem with a class action instigated also.

Thanks for the reply, do you happen to have any information regarding the class action suit and how to become a member? I'm so unbelievably furious right now, I cannot believe they're actually putting this on their customers. Do you also happen to know if there are any lifter part #'s out there that aren't faulty??

If you google . Jeep hemi lifter failure class , plenty of info should come up.I do not know of any lifters suitable that are not failing.!I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT here in Australia touch wood no failures yet Lifters failing here from around 60000 klms up.Have also heard of earlier failures.Probably around 20% of hemi engines get lifter failure.I would assume you have googled hemi lifter failure in Rams, Chargers ,Etc
