I've had it happen once maybe twice in almost 6k miles. If it gets worse, I'll be asking questions. Now that's it's broken in a bit and I've had my first service...I don't recall it happening again.

I have this exact noise about 50-60 percent of the time. Another thing that happens about half of the time is that something in the drivetrain seems to slam upon startup. Its very odd.

Mine has a slight knock when I start up as well. Wish I had more info other than "mine does that too" lol

My 2018 GC Overland with QTII does the same thing on a cold start (Located in Florida) generally only when the air is out of the suspension it seems. I have less then 3k miles on the jeep and haven't located the noise yet either.

My Trailhawk does this as well like the poster above said maybe 50% of the time.

I noticed this recently too, I also have my truck lower into the parking position when parked and this has happened twice on me now but when I push the button to raise it to the standard position, the air suspension makes the whole truck shudder and vibrate and it sounds like the compressor is working overtime for a few seconds. Its loud and just started doing it, I figure Ill bring it up when it goes in for the first oil change but its really odd. I wonder if there could be like an air bubble in the system?

Currently at 4600 miles, and my High Altitude still does the squeal. I don't tow or go off road, so I don't have the air suspension. I really bought this Jeep because of how it looks...not for capabilities so no judgment. LOL

I am guessing all of you have the V6 engine with the POS ESS system. I had a very similar issue with my first 2018 GC with the V6. Traded it with just 1800 miles on another 2018 with the V8. No clunks, clicks, squeals, or any other weird noises on startup. I personally think is different starter associated with the ESS system. I am very glad I got rid of it. Here is the link to the thread I started about the issue:

So I have about 3200 miles on my 2018 High Altitude. Anybody else has this awful squeal when starting their Jeep?

Pretty sure if you have the High Altitude you have quadralift since it is essentially based off of the Overland.

I think 4x2 gets standard suspension, no QL.

Depends if its 2wd or 4wd. 2wd is standard springs, 4wd is quadralift.

2018 3.6L here with same issue about 50% of time. I figured when I take it in for service, I'd have it checked out. Usually only on a cold start.

To me the noise sounds like something spinning down from high speed on a shaft. Like the pinion gear on the end of the starter motor shaft.

Mine has been at the dealer for a week. No issue found by the tech. Even my 10 year old son asked me what that noise was. Not sure what to do.

Hello Ryobi1,

Are you thinking you want to get a second opinion? Send me a direct message with your VIN if this is a route you'd like to take. I'll get this over to a Case Specialist who'll help communicate your concerns.
