hi

I have a 94 Jeep Grand cherokee that stalls while idling, engine backfires and bucks as though starving for fuel (fuel pump works and yes there is gas in the tank lol) engine revs up and down followed by the jeep stalling, it also happened when the gas pedal is pressed. while driving I had a total power loss with engine shutdown.
Im thankful and welcome any advice that you all may have.

I have a 93 zj 4.0 l6, and i had a problem like you.
In my case it was the sparks plug and the cable were not ok.
After the changes it is ok.

Thanks for your input.

I had not taken that in to consideration. Unfortunately I have taken further

steps: removed and cleaned the Throttle body assembly along with "IAC" sensor

and throttle position sensor. while doing so I broke a clip that held one of the

cables throttle or idk, so now Ill have to wait to try your solution.

You can also turn the key on-off-on-off-on-off-on..and watch the check engine light to count the flashes. It'll at least tell you what sensors are off and where to look. Also check the vac. lines for breaks/disconnects, vacuum box is under/part of battery tray. HTH.
