Been reading a lot of great things about Xpel on this site, but just curious if anyone has had or heard any negative things when applying Xpel to your vehicle. Sounds like a great deal, but nothing is hardly always 100%. Thanks for any feedback!

I had the complete front-end including fenders along with the sides. I had the choice of clearbra and 3m (Dealer) both of which I used in the past and wasn't all that happy with. XPEL is amazing in the sense it self heals itself with warm water or the sun, has a finer line so less visible than the other brands and is guaranteed not to yellow/orange over time. You can also you many cleaners on the XPEL that you cannot use on other products. Each will have a difference of opinion and time will tell with the XPEL but so far I am happy with my decision. Don't have the dealer do it, find a certified shop that installs.

Thanks for the input. That seems to be the consensus with everyone so far. Do you happen to know if it affects the paint in anyway? In that I mean if there would be a difference between where it was covered and not once its removed.

I was told that it has no impact on the paint at the time I had it installed, I later got that verified when my friend whacked the front-end of his bimmer and had to have it all removed after 3 years - The sides and top of the hood looked pretty much the same. Of course, I have no plans to remove and so far it has done a great job - I drive on the highway and 8 miles of it is ripped up for paving so this was a must do for me.

I believe the XPEL has a protectant embedded underneath it for the clearcoat paint.

I love mine and has saved the front end a few rock hits. I had a installer come to my house and install...whole front bumper, 22" of hood and front fenders, mirrors, and behind rear wheels from the plastic/metal line around to the first sensor for $750 and they drove an hour each way. Way better than some 3m installs I've seen on a Porsche and a BMW. It seems to lay better on corners and creases and doesn't "spiderweb", and I've put the self healing to the test. I coated mine with some Esoteric signature wax and topped it with Gtechniq C2V3(Todd Cooperider told me treat it like paint). The installer said it won't yellow, but try to use more water based protectants vs solvent based especially on lighter colored vehicles(mine is black) to aid this. I just got back from a trip to Canada, it got coated with bugs and a giant bird bomb...it just washed off, but the bird crap left a little outline so I'm glad it wasn't on the paint. It has no problem with auto touch less car washes, and pressure washers, just don't dwell on the edges, I was told if hit too hard, it could peel a bit. Don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thanks for the input! I have a couple installers to choose from in town, so think I'll be going that route. Thinking of getting the whole hood though, will have to see the cost difference.

Is there any discernible difference between a brand new vehicle with Xpel and one without? Is there a clear difference between the two or is it practically indistinguishable?

When I was using Esoteric Signature Wax you couldn't see the line at all, unless you were just at the right angle to catch the line. I've since coated the paint in Gtechniq Exo V2 and Esoteric Wax on the bra topped with Gtechniq C2V3. There is a little bit of a difference in being able to notice the bra on the hood but again, usually only from the correct angle and you have to be looking for it, but from more than say 8-10ft you can't tell.

Here's some shots of the bra...tough to see the line unless you are at the right angle and looking for it. It's also very clear, and when cleaned and protected, there's almost no difference.

No paint. Once the Xpel was on, I believe I waited until the next day(can't remember time frame) before I actually did any cleaning, it may have been a few days. Just ask the installer what is recommended before washing, protecting, etc. I will say, most every clear bra I know of, if you are getting ready to put protectant on it, or needs a thorough cleaning beyond normal car soap, use Isopropyl alchohol. I use that before I put any LSP's on the paint anyway so you can get proper bonding of your protectant. If you do get any damage i.e. scratches in the film, get hot water(around 120-130 degrees) and pour it on(I massaged the film too) and that should promote the self healing...I've put it to the test, and it worked and I was impressed. Best of luck.

I thought I saw that the installer said they weren't doing the chrome mirrors. Originally I was told the same, but he coated the mirrors, and after 9 months, no issues with bonding to the chrome. I'm considering having the area between the windshield and moonroof done. It had a lot of bug hits from our weekend trip, which makes me think stones could hit that as well...or salt in the winter from salt trucks(the wife doesn't feel it necessary to just haul ass past for some reason).

Have my appointment tomorrow for a full hood, full fender, bumper and grill install (quoted $1000). I asked the installer if I need to do anything to prep for it and he said not to waste my time doing anything extra as they have their own "ritual". Sound about right?

Also, I know it's a little late to ask, but does any one with metallic flakes in their paint have any clearbra applications and if so, does it diminish from the flakiness (?) of the paint compared to the rest of the Jeep? Thanks.

Yep it's the ultimate. I got another quote in town for $1300 as well, so was pretty excited I found it for so cheap. I'm gonna be very picky when I pick it up so hopefully they do a good job!

Mine turned out great! They even used excess material to cover up the headlamps. I know that it's not the material designed specifically for them, but it saved me some cash and added protection so I'm ok with it. He did say that it will take a week or so for all the solution to dissipate from underneath the film and that if it doesn't to let him know so he can reapply. Let me know if your guys say the same.

They were great about wrapping and tucking what they good and cutting the lines as close to the edge as possible.

I was also going to have them put the Jeep badge back on, but after seeing it off, I liked the clean look of it quite a bit. I posted a thread on this yesterday with a pic comparing the two.

I had them put 20% tints on the front two windows as well and it makes a world of a difference having those match the rear tint in my opinion.

I don't know if it "enhances" the flakes so much, but from my eye it's indiscernible from the rest of the body. No complaints so far! Let us know how your's turns out.
